Rudd Straight Talking to the Chinese

I loved this story.
The Prime Minister of Australia made a speech in Mandarin in front of hundreds of students, directly criticising the Chinese government's handling of the Tibetan crisis.

As I said, I loved reading it. Anybody got a different take on this? Bad for relations? For me I reckon it is great that we have a PM out there with an actual opinion on something, and not only that, he is voicing it directly to the people it concerns, in their own language.
Thoughts?

I'm no fan of Rudd, but I agree with what he did, Tibetans are treated like 2nd class citizens in their own country.

ill bite....
i think its crap. if he wants to make a real difference and truly free tibet the only way he can really do it is to try and extinguish the olympic torch like every other hippy out there is doing.

ok, i dont particularly like rudd but tibet wont get a thing if everyone pussy foots around china like they're the school yard bully. tell them how you see it and be done with it, if it upsets them big deal.

Crushinator. The best way to deal with the Chinese IMO, is to IMPRESS them. He has certainly done that so far.
I really don't think Rudd would ever be listened to by the Chinese again if he tried to extinguish the Olympic torch. In my understanding, he is the only world leader to have gone to China and spoken up about the Tibetan issue in their native language. He has their attention, and I am glad he isn't pussy-footing around with it.
Many Chinese would probably have no idea about what is happening in Tibet. Their news is government sponsored, and heavily edited. It is however very hard to censor a speech made directly in Mandarin to a live audience. No surprise then that they went live to air after the event to try and discredit what he said.
He is taking the message into their country, this is the best thing he can do at this stage IMO.

Huh?
Sorry, if you mean the same thing as what I said I needn't have written it then. But your original post reads as though you disagree with Rudd's actions here.

Pity the Chinese are not listening. Their "athletes" in the blue and white track suits will protect the torch "with their bodies" despite Kev saying Australia will provide the only security on our soil. Watch for the collapsible Kalashnikovs packed by the Karate kids in blue and white.

I'd tell them to take their torch and go home NOW!

The Chinese don't use and never have used Kalashnikovs. They used the Type 56 Assault rifle. This has since been replaced by Type 81 Assualt Rifle.

Amazing how the Chinese can organise crowds at the drop of a hat.
When the Chinese PM visited England a little while back, the embassy bussed in perhaps about 10,000 from all over London to wave their little flags and make it look as though he has soaring popularity.

All those Chinese have relatives at home in China - it is not so amazing - it just takes a few whispered words, like mentioning their names.
