I haven't read many others, but yes.

After the last Mail headline, "Just Say Sorry" and the redneck covering of David Hicks I am prepared to say although I don't read any others they can't be any worse.

Having lived in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Adelaide (and having brief stints in Brisbane and Tassie) I'd say that they'd be close.

The Canberra Times is pretty poor, but I've now stopped buying the Advertiser because I just don't get anything from reading it.

The Sat Advertiser is the last one we've just cancelled. When I phoned the newsagent to cancel delivery he said "geez, it's not worth coming down your street any more, we've had that many cancellations recently".

I used to laugh at Tuesday's version which wouldn't even wrap your 2 fish and chips!

I do find it funny that people have a go at the advertisements in the paper, when it's called The Advertiser!

I do buy the Sunday Mail, especially to see local cricket results in summer, local footy results in winter, but now that the internet is pretty much updated real time, the need for that is diminishing quickly.

My missus likes the SMail because she gets the tele guide out of it. Other than that, we can do without it I reckon.

And thank goodness Nicole Cornes went into parliament (what..... did she lose?) so we don't have to put up with her terrible points of view.

Stopped buying them ages ago except if I know there will be a article (like the first Xmas day baby in SA, good friends of ours).

I just log on in the morning have my coffee, put on ABC Kids TV and surf for 30 minutes (same time I'd spend reading the paper).

Both the Advertiser & the Sunday Mail are crap.

It worries me though that people actually form opinions based on what is written in them. A lack of decent press journalism is a big problem. Like Gadj I only get the mail for the footy scores which in the only factual information in there.

Do you think they'd print a letter to the editor "sack yourself and hire someone with standards"?

Agreed on all counts except for the footy scores being factual, they're quite often wrong, they can't even get lawn bowls scores right some weeks.

I have given up on Monday-Saturday Tiser unless I find one when get to work on a/shift (think recycle), I still buy SMail for travel section, TV guide (even though never all correct and can get for free in messenger if they deliver it; haven't had one for 6 weeks now) and photo's of brides/maids
Its better to just go to AdelaideNow website and read stories that intrigue you and miss out of the pages of tripe.

Yeah well at the moment I cant see anything improving with the tiser. As it seems there additude towards journalism is as longa s the spell checker goest through it, it can go to print. Some of the stuff ups they have had are pretty poor.

Does anyone read the Independent Weekly?

The Advertiser is getting worse (if it can!), Sunday Mail has Sport results and a tele guide and otherwise it is worthless.

Even the website is falling down - I checked out the SANFL section today at lunchtime and it has a picture of the Weed as Westies coach yet a headline about Collins is already having an impact  , Pyman coaching South with the headline "Tigers take flag" (re the ressies game), "Callinan thrown lifeline" (but he wasn't selected after training at Richmond) and "Perrie on Sturt Radar".

"Breaking news" - all of it !

(PS - how did this make the Politics Thread? And survive so far? )

Ive read the Independant Weekly a few times, find it worse than the Advertiser. Their journos opinion on whatever they are writing about is far too evident in their articles.

Was the above sentence intentionally ironic?

Sorry Andy - it's no contest. Brisbane's Courier Mail wins (or is that loses?) hands-down.

It's actually that bad, I look forward to returning to SA so I can read the 'tiser!

However for real trash - the old News they used to sell in SA was the worst I've ever experienced. Used to often buy it for the train trip home - had finished it by the time I passed the jail most times. The only up side to that paper was the footy stats in Mondays edition.

They're in there every week, 2nd or 3rd last page of the sports.

On the other side of the ledger, the best paper of all is the new freebie paper put out in the Riverland.
Cheers

The Age is definitely the best of the current newspapers going around.

But I agree, reading news on the net now is the way to go, most of the time breaking news hits the websites far quicker than the other mediums such as radio & TV.

So you dont read other papers, yet suggest ours are the worst in the country?

Well, for stories that cover a national subject we often just get sydicated versions of stories from journo's in other states.
For local stories,we have only the Tiser and 'Mail to cover them, who else can do a better job?

What are your options?

In yesterday's SM, in the story about the SANFL captains, they mentioned Nathan Brown in the story as being the new WA captain, but in the photo alongside, they named him as Nathan Jones
