Personally I'm stoked if it gets him out of South Australia's issues.

Almost choked on my beer when I heard on the radio that he's a popular politician.

Ride's a toy car around parliament house and he's the best thing since sliced bread apparantley.

I'll always remember the Anti Pokie Crusader for siding with a Pokie Baron against a club and being their lawyer at one stage.
For some reason that story didn't get on the front page of the Advertiser as they love their Nick.

Good riddance Nick, lock the door on the way to Canberra thanks mate.

Better still lock ther door and dont get in .Biggest problem with democracy dropkicks get in.

Go to agree with both comments here. This man has resigned very early in his 8 year term, he has no respect for the 200,000 South Australians who voted for him, and would have expected him to see out that term. Hopefully people will not be so stupid a second time.

If he gets in, he'll be a loan voice and quickly drowned out.

His gimmicks will only get him so far in Fed politics.

People who voted for him should feel ripped off.

With this election, it is concievable that a minor party or independant will hold the balance of power in the Senate.

The choices - Extreme Left - Democrats / Greens.

Extreme Right - Family First.

Nick Xenephon would be a far better choice than any of these and he certainley will have my vote.

If he wins he will still be representing the people of S.A, he will have a better opportunity though to achieve a lot more.

I think it is a good move. Smart of the Rann Govt to cajole him away as well as he is a significant thorn in their side because he is not a party member and he is willing to pick and choose his causes sensibly.

SA has batted out of its league in recent years with Downer, Minchin, Vanstone etc all holding positions of influence. Vanstone got shoved out because the eastern states felt SA was over-represented.

This is a good election for Mr X to jump on board for - strategically that is. I don't think he has necessarily let the 200,000 who voted for him down in a big way - He is moving to a bigger stage and in some respects he is going from being an influence at SANFL level to play at the National level. He will be a smaller fish in a bigger pond but he is astute, informed and savvy. The govt here has made life very tough for him resource wise because they know that if he has more resources he will do more harm to them. Now, the SA Govt can focus wholly on Hamilton-Smith - after they have finished with doing everything they can to get Rudd over the line.

On an MP's wage i dont think he'll need to take out too many loans

He was actually making more money as a Barrister before he went into Politics.

I had met him beforehand when he was representing workers who had got compo payments and then had them ripped of by the Pokie clubs who kept them liquored up with free booze to encourage them to keep gambling it away.

However I haven't met him since the mid 1990s, show I can't guarantee he hasn't changed in some way. He was an idealist then. I also knew one of the two guys who stood with him in the first "No Pokies" campaign.

I agree Stan. I actually voted the guy in on the understanding that he'd try and keep the disgraceful Rann government accountable in place of the pathetic Liberal opposition who contested the last election.

No way I'll be voting for him in the federal election...

Hi Im a barrister and have no issue representing pokies baron, I need an idea to sucker people to vote for me, hell it may be hypocritical and it may be embarassing for the smart folk out there that can see what I'm doing or god forbid do some background research on someone they're voting for but I'll do a back flip and pretend I hate pokies and the people that own them whilst become the darling of the Advertiser and play with toy trains and goats. I have no issue representing a big hotelier who wants a monopoly on pokies in the area at the expense of a club that puts money back into the community. Once elected I might even raise or vote on issues that have nothing to do with my platform. Please vote for me, thank you.

Thank christ some of the people that voted for him before are waking up.
I'd probably upset a few if I said what I thought of people that voted for him so I'll keep mum on that one.

Given the dismal performance of the Kerin led Libs at that stage Wedgie, I can understand very easily why Mr X received the vote he did. He was the only person getting under the collars of Rann and Foley... I can only hope Hamilton-Smith puts up a better fight at the next state election...

All he did was push the right buttons and have some antics. Thats pretty much it.

thats still alot more button pushing and media stunts than the opposition did. Mind you hammilton-smith is no better really, his polling is still terrible and I doubt he will make it to the next election.

Will be interesting to see how the latest news plays out for Nick and his campaign this week.

Some pretty nasty accusations have been made by Anne Bressingto, his SA Parliamentary running mate.

She's not very happy with him at all. A question of financial commitments.

Yeah it will be interesting. There are plenty of people out there that will vote for "St.Nick" but like anyone has skeletons.
