(Miscellaneous debris)

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

Another win for talkback radio:

A DRUNK and obsessive talkback radio fan tried to set Mike Rann's electoral office alight to "make a grand statement" against government wastage, a court has heard.

Mark Anthony Lock, 49, appeared in the District Court today.

He had previously pleaded guilty to one count of threatening to damage property by arson.

In May 2011, Lock walked into the then-Premier's office on Commercial Rd, Salisbury, and doused himself and the floor with petrol.

He told terrified staff to leave and, when police arrived, said he would "blow this place".

He seems quite right-headed to me...

An acquaintance in the business world sent me this.
I'm not saying I endorse all off it by posting it though.
The ATO sent my Tax Return back..

I guess it was because of my response to the question "List all dependants?"

I replied:
2 million illegal immigrants.
half a million crack heads.
1 million unemployable people on Centrelink.
1 million people in over 243 prisons.
Half of Afghanistan.
135 fools in the Australian Parliament and Senate.

Evidently, this was NOT an acceptable answer.
WHO DID I MISS??

Strangely then, I'd never met it before, but when I was working full time I guess I didn't have time for such things.
(And of course this version is post-Afghanistan, while I was around before even the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics started messing with the place.)

Serious question, - if 5% is the actual unemployment figure in Australia and migration to Australia is booming along with the cuts to interest rates, why have New Home Starts fallen to their lowest level in 18 years?

AGGRAVATED child pornography charges filed against a former Labor MP have been dropped - meaning his identity will remain a secret until after his trial.

In the Adelaide Magistrates Court yesterday, prosecutors dropped allegations the MP had been in possession of child pornography - including images of children under the age of 14.

Through his lawyer, the MP pleaded not guilty to seven allegations he tried to obtain child pornography via the internet.

Because those offences are considered minor, the MP will stand trial in the Magistrates Court instead of the District Court.

If convicted, he faces a maximum five-year jail term.

The change also means his identity will remain suppressed, under order of state law, until the entire matter has concluded.

I object to the "severely retarded" tag but admit I haven't been paying much attention to local issues. ;)

The article misses the point. The ABS is using the same parameters they've been using for years.
