Gozu,
A lady I knew in Adelaide who had employed are lot of people over the years once said, "Most people can keep up an act for up to 18 months, but no longer."
Lots of people present OK at interview because they have been coached in what to do and what to say. When they feel secure they revert to their normal ways - usually after any probationary period has expired. For example, one I employed who was quite good at the job but after 3 months took to sneaking off and smoking in the kitchen in our clearly stated smoke-free environment - an Occupational Health issue for everybody else - particularly a couple of asthmatics n the staff. It had been made clear that smoking outside the premises during the breaks was the way to go if you needed one and that there were asthmatics who worked in the environment. The first reminder had no effect.
You too are making assumptions about the universality of your perspective.
The middle class are the swinging voters - the extreme groups are committed to their parties and their party's policies regardless.
It is true the independence minded who want to work for themselves have tended to lean Liberal, but there are now a lot of small business people who were employees [and Labor stalwarts] before the dropping of tariff barriers started under Hawke/Keating killed off there industries forcing them to take there redundancy money and make the mistake of buying into franchises like Jim's Mowing etc. in their desparation to get a job they could do, and a lot of them are now earning a lot less than they used to as employees after paying running expenses.
