Focus on your electorate then and which individual will best work for your local interests.

Was Tony Zappia, but we've move into the TTG area now so not even sure who holds the seat... Hmmm will have to do a bit of research...

My head hurts already ...

Libs will get stuff done who cares who runs the show? The leader is more just the media front man these days.

Richard Marles quits the front bench. Joel Fitzgibbon offered to surrender the Chief Whips office. Oh yeah, it's a united Labor Party that is ruling over us.

Crean, and to a lesser extent Marles, made monumental stupid decisions today when they didn't bother to check that the numbers weren't actually in the bag.

Dumb, dumb, dumb ...

do we even need a election in september. Why can't we just save everyone's time and not waste all that money on a election and hand the government over to liberal.

Agreed. Its not good for business or Government organisations to know what is going on with funding.

No one employs as they dont know what is going to be cut or where funding is going.

Lots of uncertainty out there right now.

:(

As the classic jilted/disgruntled/lost Labor voter, today was the first time in years I got a little excited.

Then of course, I got pi$$ed off when they ballsed it up (again.)

When Heavy Kevvy finally knocks off Gillard, it'll be a bigger cause for celebration than Election Day 2007...

My post last night reflected dissatisfaction with the current Governments inward focus. I largely missed todays events but caught up on the evening news. I logged on to this forum to find 3 pages of passionate posts added since last night but nothing has changed. We still have an inwardly focused Government run by Julia Gillard.

Was this all just a contrivance in an effort reassert Gillard's authority and credibility as leader with the party and voting public and to silence the media on this topic?

My reasons for making this claim are - No one stood against Julia or Swanny. It would seem to me that in order to have a leadership spill you would first require an opposing or challenging party or parties. The spill was called this afternoon and settled this afternoon when, in the normal course of events, these matters usually take a few days between announcement and the caucus vote and decision. Simon Creen is a very experienced political campaigner who is a labour man through and through. He is too politically savvy to call a spill without first scoping the numbers and far too experienced to commit political suicide as it appears he has today unless he believed it was for the benefit of the party. Until now he has given the unreserved impression that he was right behind Gillard's leadership and has been scathing of Rudd for his destabilisation tactics employed over the past few years.

Rudd was the target, Creen was the assailant, Gillard and Labor the intended beneficiaries,

Thoughts????

I personally think rudd has given up on leading labor or he is just wanting to sit back and watch gillard go down. If the gillard seriously think she can and even come close to beating abott in the next election thing she's got mental issues. To me the only people that would vote for gillard over rudd would be the ones that back stabbed rudd last time, and that would only be to keep there jobs. look at her response today towards abott telling him he should of used that time to tell the voters why to vote for him, has she forgotten the election is 6 months away? Seriously she just scrapped through last election, now that the voters actually know what she's like how is she going to convince more voters to vote for her?

I can't see this Parliament lasting the distance.

Abbott will try to get a no confidence motion up at every opportunity, although we have now a 7 week lull before the May budget when things will get interesting again.

There will be enormous pressure on the cross benches to continue their support of the government

Do they keep supporting the government and get tainted with the same brush or do they bail now and save some face with their electorates?

Will be very interesting - I think they would have loved it Kev got up yesterday as then they could have used it as an excuse to tear up their agreement by saying it was with Julia not Kevin. Now they have to stick with her until the death.
