I've sat at a table over dinner with Isobel Redmond and a few other locals.
She is actually quite pleasant and easy to get along with, and reasonably well informed on issues outside politics.
Then, I've done the same with Terry Groom and Greg Crafter, and the old Communist, Elliot Johnston, and get along with them too.
(Elliott of course died last year at 93.)

I don't fancy sitting down to a meal with any in the list above though.

The State government has little or no influence over the operations of SAHMRI.

It is not part of government and has its own Board, primarily consisting of the 3 Unis and SA Health.

It receives funding through research grants and and it's own medical research fund.

As stated before it received most of the funding for it's facility from the Federal government, and is currently trying to source funding for a 2nd building next to the current one. This will also have to be almost totally funded by the Feds to get off the ground.

So in reality, it doesn't matter what the State Government think about it all, SAHMRI will gladly accept any funds it can get, regardless of how that funding is paid for.

An influx of fresh blood into senior positions is considered vital by influential party figures to escape the legacy of years of Opposition.

Under one extreme scenario, senior Liberals such as Isobel Redmond, Rob Lucas, Mark Goldsworthy, Michael Pengilly, John Dawkins and Duncan McFetridge would be persuaded to quit parliament simultaneously.

I think that if Marshall keeps banging on about the election result, he is likely to turn voters against the liberals.

I mean seriously, how is it that us political expert analysts can see where they went wrong with the campaign yet Marshall cant see it, or atleast doesn't want to acknowledge it.

A senior Liberal and former leader Iain Evans has announced he will quit the South Australian Parliament within the next year, which will force a by-election.

Mr Evans, 55, has been the Opposition's treasury spokesman and says he will not seek a shadow cabinet role in a coming reshuffle by Liberal leader Steven Marshall.

I think a clean out would be good for them to get fresh faces and enthusiasm into the party. They really should target the Central, Northern and Western city electorates though.

I also just realised that 3 adjoining electorates have lost their elected member (albeit for different reasons) since the election!
Waite - MHS defected to Labor, Fisher - Bob Such on leave to recover from illness, and now Davenport with Iian Evans retiring. What is going on in the South East corner of the City and with the week Isobel Redmond has just had, will a another adjoining electorate in Heyson soon be vacated??
