Love it, southee :D

That's just shithouse typing, though, not incorrect grammar.

PS: You should have had a comma after 'game' ;)

Comedian Mick Molloy and Network TEN have lost a profile defamation case brought against them in South Australia by former political candidate Nicole Cornes and wife of former AFL coach Graham Cornes.

Ms. Cornes sued after alleging Molloy defamed her on Before the Game by joking she had slept with former Port Adelaide player Stuart Dew.

Molloy later read an on-air apology.

Justice David Peek ruled in favour of Cornes’ case and awarded her $85,000 in general damages. A decision on court costs will be made at a later date.

Will Russell Wortley break his predecessor's record to lose his ministerial post? If Wortley can be rattled by a first timer independent then he's in huge trouble ... obviously completely out of his depth.

Although I did laugh when Bressington was named yesterday by the speaker and said 'what does that mean?'

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/ann-bress ... 6102310756

Besieged local government Minister Russell Wortley has told Parliament he did not consult with any of his Cabinet collegues before deciding to shelve the MacPherson report into Burnside Council.

Facing further grilling in Parliament today, Mr Wortley said he had first received a letter from the Police Commissioner last Tuesday requesting the report by former Auditor-General Ken MacPherson be directed to the Police Anti Corruption Branch.

Independent MLC Ann Bressington accused Mr Wortley in Question Time today for trying to "mask his incompetence" by referring the investigation to the Director of Public Prosecutions, knowing it was a "futile act."

Ms Bressington said advice from Kevin Borick QC suggested that Mr Wortley's decision to terminate the investigation was "unlawful" and paved the way for judicial review.

Sounds like a vote of no confidence is looming.

Disappointing that the ALP doesn't have some better talent within their ranks.

Was looking at Ms. Bressingtons website and see that she is against flouridation of water supplies. I have no idea about the merits or otherwise of flouridation (maybe our medical expert Psyber can tell us) but it reminds me of the classic scene from Dr. Strangelove:

Yes the paranoia about fluoridation of the water supply was about when the Dr Strangelove movie was made - hence the reference to it in the movie.
[Which I have copy of.]

Fluorine, which appears in water in its ionic form fluoride, is a simple element very closely related to Chlorine which appears in its ionic form chloride in ordinary salt.
Both elements are toxic and corrosive as gases, but not as ions.
There is ample evidence that appropriate amounts of fluoride ion in the water helps strengthen teeth and prevent tooth decay.
Too much fluoride accumulating in the structure can make teeth hard and brittle and discolour them, but the levels in the water supply can be adequately controlled with reasonable margin.
Bones, too, can benefit or suffer from fluoride depending on concentration.
Here are the details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluoride

Back in the early 70s, when the debate about fluoridation was on in SA, a colleague and I suggested jokingly that Lithium Fluoride in the water may benefit both teeth and mental health.
More recently it has been seriously suggested in an article, from Japan IIRC.
I emailed it to him at Flinders University where he now works, suggesting we should have patented the idea! ;)

Thanks Psyber it looks like we share good taste in movies!

Hilarious looking at the Wikipedia Water Flouridation Controversy page and finding these quotes:

Activists on the far right of American politics routinely asserted that fluoridation was part of a far-reaching plot to impose a socialist or communist regime.

Others asserted the existence of a plot by communists and the United Nations to "deplete the brainpower and sap the strength of a generation of American children". Dr. Charles Bett, a prominent anti-fluoridationist, charged that fluoridation was "better THAN USING THE ATOM BOMB because the atom bomb has to be made, has to be transported to the place it is to be set off while POISONOUS FLUORINE has been placed right beside the water supplies by the Americans themselves ready to be dumped into the water mains whenever a Communist desires!" Similarly, a right-wing newsletter, the American Capsule News, claimed that "the Soviet General Staff is very happy about it. Anytime they get ready to strike, and their 5th column takes over, there are tons and tons of this poison "standing by" municipal and military water systems ready to be poured in within 15 minutes."

Only problem though southee, is that if you're anti-ALP, once Rann is gone Weatherill is likely to come in and has a reasonable chance of beating the Libs in the next election.

Personally, I'm pretty happy with this development and wouldn't have a problem with Weatherill leading the ALP to victory in 2014.

Was he at the game today southee?

Here is the story

THE leadership of Premier Mike Rann is in turmoil after he has been formally told his reign is over. The much anticipated move on Mr Rann was made late Friday when he was given an ultimatum by two senior members of the Right faction - stand down or be removed.

In a meeting in his State Administration Centre office the pair, Right faction powerbroker Peter Malinauskas and Treasurer Jack Snelling, told Mr Rann the factions had agreed on a new leadership ticket that would see Education Minister Jay Weatherill installed as Premier and existing Deputy Premier John Rau continue in the role.

Mr Rann was told the factions wanted the new leadership team in place prior to the start of the Spring parliamentary session on September 13 and that he must stand down during the winter break.

Disappointing way for his leadership to end, IMHO and I very rarely comment directly on that sort of thing for a number of reasons. The last 18 months will tarnish what had been a pretty fair list of achievements in the eight years prior to this.
