Not that I take much notice of polls, but the NewsPoll just released shows Labor's 2-party preferred up, yes up, 2 points to 47% ... WTF.

Sort of sums up how rooted we are. Labor are imploding and Abbott and his clowns are no better.

Kind of justifies my discussions and statements earlier on the page. We have two leaders, that nobody really wants and we are stuck with them.

Need alternatives such as Smith for the Labor Party and if i were the Liberals, would bring back Costello - who was a brilliant politician, whilst never the PM. He would chew Abbott up for breakfast and eat him for lunch.

Hey we could all vote for the Bobbsy twins - Bob Katter or Bob Brown, which would be just great  or maybe even Joe Hockey  - we are in a terrible political mess and it really does not get much better at State level.

Really, for Tony Abbott to not have an unassailable lead in the polls at the moment, is a disgrace and shows something of the faith that the Australian people have in the Liberal Party and Abbott himself. Abbott, should be miles and miles in front, with Gillard and the Labor Party not even in their or his rear vision mirror.

Based on that , could see another attempted overthrow of Abbot in the months ahead? - if he can't be a long way in front now then his colleagues would have serious questions, you would think on his leadership qualities. Labor in an absolute shambles and gaining percentage points, really is not what Abbott would want to see tomorrow morning, while Labor go through their leadership fiasco vote.

I stand by my prediction that the election will be Rudd vs Turnbull.

But why should its drastically change? It's not as though they are drastically altering their platform and policies.

I don't think so.
I don't think he wanted to challenge now, as he didn't have the support yet.
I assume that was why Julia and her advisers decided to bring it on before he had the numbers.

Good result for Tony Abbott... ;)

I freely admit Yahoo polls don't mean much scientifically because of sample size, but I suspect this one reflects today's community mood fairly well:
Who do you intend to vote for at the next election?
Labor (1496)13%
Liberal/National (7772)67%
Green (644)6%
Independent (654)6%
Other (929)8%

Congratulations today must go to Ms Julia Gillard.

As you probably already know, I am not a labor fan, but my electorate is a labor stronghold.

I would like to hear how the female voters see julia..?

He's been on the case for 12 months now by his own admission and appears not to have swayed anyone. It seems like the same core group of supporters he always had stuck with him and that's it. I think his power in the party was further reduced by this. If he needs more than 12 months to get the numbers then I don't think he will ever have the numbers.

He has now said publicly he won't run again so he would lose the moral high ground he played on this time if he ran again.

More likely I think is a new contender emerging unless Julia can turn the polls around.

Without naming any members/figures as I am purely speculating, I would say there would be a portion of the 71 who today voted for Gillard because they knew it was safer to be on the side of the winner.

If he can swing another say 10 towards him, he may pick up any caucus members I am refering to above who didn't see the need to risk their standing in the party for no reward.

I do understand how disliked he is in caucus, but he still got 31 votes today even when it was known he couldn't win.

This isn't over in my opinion, at least certainly not for Rudd.
