The South Australian Political Landscape

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

Of course the media will be more synical against Labor , they are the government, they set the agenda the spotlight is going to be on them.

I listened to the interview yesterday and I thought Matt and Dave were shocking, it was almost as if I was listening to Today Tonight.

Generally i find that they are quite intellegent when conducting interviews and do predominently ask the serious questions.

Yesterday they were very poor, mind you Foley was tactless. He could have handled himself a lot better and reversed the situation he was in or simply just hang up.

Granted the ABC treatment of him was poor but the guy is a grub and pulls a big wage and should be put to the sword by the media for the poor job him and his mate the FUTURE have done since last elected. They are an embarrasment to the state and have had power way too long. The sooner we se the end of both of them the better.

Just imagine for the moment that Matt & Dave were interviewing a woman who had been sexually assulted a few days earlier and suggested that the short skirt she was wearing was innapropriate.

Is this any better or worst than their treatment of Foley?

Yes it can, FM.

It has a lot more credence than your previous post, which is totally contradictory and makes the victim the accused.

Foley handled the interview very poorly.

I actually don't think he should have been interviewed in his current state of mind.
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

You might be right, southee.

That just makes the interviewers behaviour even worse.

I wonder how we would react if we'd been bashed twice in a short space of time.

Unfortunately, when you're well known, you seem to be fair game and there will always be people who think it's your own fault.

An inside source I know hinted, somewhat indirectly, that Foley has been a bit volatile since his bout of depression that was announced a while ago, and that he may be being a bit impulsively outspoken and thus provocative.
That doesn't mean he should be able to be physically assaulted simply because of things he says.

Any normal person wouldn't go giving press conferences and doing the rounds of the media

Everyone is entitled to go about their business without the threat of violence but this is the real world and I avoid situations that I see as potentially bad. I'll cross the street to avoid conflict because its just not worth it. Foley has always said hes quite prepared to stand up to anyone. Problem is parliament is not the real world and his bullying personality is a magnet for trouble.

I found the first part of the interview particularly interesting, and i quote

Bevan: Kevin Foley joins us now. Good morning, minister. Do you think a growing number of South Australians, and perhaps even your own colleagues, are tired of the Kevin Foley soap opera?

Foley: Are you suggesting, David, that I was at fault or to blame for what occurred to me Saturday night?

Abraham: No. You were asked though, you know, in terms of a political figure, whether this is becoming a soap opera. There's Kevin Foley again at a press conference with tears in his eyes yesterday, I'm imagining the Premier is thinking: "This is starting to get not a good look."

Foley: I'm not even going to bother with this interview. Quite frankly, you asked me to come on to talk about what occurred. Other radio stations can treat me with some respect and some dignity, but that is clearly beyond your capability, David and Matthew. I got attacked Saturday night. I cried in a press conference yesterday because I was damn upset. I was very scared Saturday night. I was thumped three months ago within an inch of my life, and all you two guys could be worried about was all the salacious gossip and all the reasons that might have been behind me getting hit, which were all complete bullshit. And all you want to do now is again try and score points from me. I'm the victim, guys. If you want to have a crack at me, how about you find something decent like a policy to have a go at me over.

He should've have hung up there and then, but didn't. He decided to stand and fight for another 10 minutes or so

He then made a fool of himself and abused them (I thought this quite ironic: Foley: Yeah, 'cos I actually get out and do a real job. I don't have the luxury of sitting inside a studio, pulling a public servant's salary and being an instant expert on everything like you two do.)

Maybe he needs to learn when to walk away

I really dont care but I do remember Mike Rann denying knowing the bloke that jobbed him only to have the truth nearly destroy him. Instead of hitting the media, maybe Foley should wait for his day(s) in Court. If the truth in either case is different to what he says, he's in even bigger trouble

One thing for certain, I do feel sorry for his sons who must want him to give it all away before he completely destroys himself

The polls are certainly heading in the wrong direction for the government, and the news that powerbrokers are looking for a change in leadership within two months, plus the pressure from many other areas, would suggest that the Premier would be lucky to see out his role until July.

Seeing as this is just a resignation can we comment on this on Adelaide Now? I mean we could when Foley stood down.

Don't think the odds would have been very good for that Dedja.
