Remember when Rann was appointed leader in SA - his approval rating was around 13% and stayed low for a long time

When you've been in power for so long, you have to go through some pain to get the right people.

What is happening now happened to Labor for years after Keating.

They are allowed their time in the sun but know its only a matter of time

hmmmm my views are as i will vote liberals to the day i die. After a certain Labor/Bannon government and their ways in the 90s for South Australia with the State bank Saga. But can see the libs wont return in the next election, no party can come back from a beating like that and then come straight back into power.

Turnbull and Costello (the WorkChoices architect) are still at each others throats. Stick a fork in em.

I don't think that is exactly what the article implied. Yours looks like a partisan interpretation to me.
In a democratic party, policy is not dictated downward from a Caucus and Caucus elected leadership group, but different views can raised at meetings by any member, and get kicked around until agreement is reached. Even arguing strongly is not uncommon, and it is not proof of "disunity" - it can be democracy in action. I have been involved in such debates when I was involved with the Libs in SA, and was involved in one between John Olsen and Alexander Downer about ways of dealing with the state debt in SA just after John Olsen was elected Premier, and I got to put my view too.

The reason I joined the Liberals and not Labor, since my personal policies are somewhat centralist and I had a Labor background, is just that, that individual members can have their say at general meetings and be listened to.

There is certainly unity in concern about the dictatorial powers the Rudd government plans to give to Union organisations to invade the privacy of workers who do not want Union involvement in their working lives. I do think Work Choices under John Howard went too far, and I think the Rudd proposals go too far the other way, but are dressed up to look innocent.

Costello showed how spineless he was as Howard's wimpering lap dog all those years. He's never taken the hard road in the past and I can't see him doing it in the future.
Besides who wants a leader with mates like this

Yes LL, I am not impressed with Costello, and I wasn't when I first met him back in the late 90s, when he visited Mayo as a guest of Alexander D.
I'm inclined to suspect the people saying they favour him as leader in the polls by Yahoo, et cetera, are actually Labor party members voting to try to encourage the Libs to be really stupid and elect him leader!

And on the other side of the coin I've met and had a decent chat with his brother Tim. A nicer person you couldn't find. Go figure.

You get diversity in families.
Back in the late 70s, through the lady who became my 2nd wife, I met Sir John McLeay's family at a Christmas do at their home.
One guy came up to me and said, "Hello, I'm Bobby McLeay, the red sheep of the family."

The Liberal Party continues to sink into the abyss and their messiah complex continues:
