State health neglect.

State health neglect.

This time the allegations are in Qld, but I know from experience that there are waiting lists to get on official waiting lists in at least one other state.

"Almost 400 Queenslanders have been waiting for more than five years for elective surgery, Opposition Health spokesman Mark McArdle says. Figures obtained by the opposition, through a question on notice, showed an additional 264 people classified as category two patients had been waiting between one and two years for surgery. Category two patients include those with cancer and heart conditions who are supposed to be treated within 90 days."

The states, of course, always claim a shortage of federal funding, while the feds assert the funding is sufficient and it is up to the states to spend state funding where it is most needed.

It would seem better to me if Public Hospitals were run directly through the Federal Government in terms of efficency and direct funding that would have to be a far better model than the current shambles!

I agree entirely - it would cut out the buck-passing that goes on now.
I'd also support, in principle, the idea of scrapping states governments entirely, but I'd like to move the national capital out of the eastern states as part of the deal.
Darwin or Alice Springs to give the MPs perspective.
