apparently the west is booming, some industry has taken off over there in the last couple of years.... :? :?

apparently the new train line that has extended to mandurah, was there years years ago, but they closed it down, and then they invested and got it back up and running, was a good 3-4 yrs in the making, the best thing is its in the middle of the road, imagine a train/tram down the middle of port rd for a local comparison

Rushby, the WA articles make me wonder why we can't do ANYTHING...

FFS we extend a tram line by what 700 metres and there's a bloody uproar etc etc. Why didn't they extend it the whole way down Port Rd.

Things seem to be moving in the right direction over in WA. Actually they are moving in the right direction every where except here...
The joy of being on the hill drinking beer cannot be understated

I don't see anything seriously wrong with Footy Park. Another stadium near the city would just clog up the city even more with cars and would be a nightmare for parking. Yes, if the majority of people used public transport, the city would be a more convenient location, but I can't see this ever happening here - Adelaide is too spread out and not densely populated enough for a decent public transport system to be cost-effective.

Is this your opinion Rushby just because it less convenient for YOU to get to?

We will not compromise the SANFL competition (with AFL reserves teams)."

Partly, Ecky.

But mainly because I have had the good fortune in the last few years to go to Subiaco, Aami, the MCG and Telstra Dome.

Telstra Dome is purely a phenomenal venue, IMHO. You sit incredibly closer to the action, for one. ATmosphere, accessibility, getting in and out and around, all easy as.

I went to an AFL GF a few years back, and at 1/4 time, just because, i bought a pie and a coke. Did not miss one second of the footy.

Wouldn't try that at AAMI or Subiaco.

A major problem @ AAMI is the gentle slope of the stands. Has anyone sat in the new stand @ the Northern end? Get a better view from the moon.

Firstly, decisions are mainly made on the basis of electoral cycles. The tram extension was only ever about a legacy.

Secondly, I think you will find that with the Rann Govt mid-term and the Rudd Govt recently elected and promising four COAGs a year, that the state govt will be pressuring Rudd for $$$ from the Commonwealth for Health and Education firstly and other pet projects fater that - more money for health and education will see the state inject less of its own $$$ in to these areas and then start down the infrastructure expenditure line (just in time for...yes, you guessed it, the next state election!).

Thirdly, before we build a city stadium here let's try programming a few AFL games at Adelaide Oval after the capacity has been upgraded. It can never be an indoor venue sure, but let's try that first. (I know, I know - it wont happen!).

If we were to build a city sports facility - what about one for basketball, netball, tennis, squash, weightlifting, swimming etc? Create new opportunities. Surely they could re-develop Memorial Drive/Next Generation into being part of a bigger facility to embrace more sports with extra spectator capacity.

Cant argue the toss on the need to have better public transport - especially rail. We still have land corridors around that remain unused to this day, because most has lines pulled up and they are now just covered with brown grass and a 2m bike track.

They will not program any footy games at Adelaide Oval.AFL stadiums need to be fully seated and I hope they do not get rid of the hills at Adelaide Oval and i doubt they will.We do need a Stadium in the city in my opinion and an electical rail system. It does cost money and i see the governments point on borrowing money as we maybe heading into a recession in the coming years. What honestly makes me sick at the guts is the way the ACC runs the CBD and over powers the government.F*****g honestly, what good are the majority of the park lands surrounding the city. All they are is a haven for homeless alcoholics and a homosexual meeting point. We are a 20th century society and these facilities are needed. In my opinion some major planning over the next 2 years is needed along with saving the murray......

Fire Up LK!

How about this for a site for a city stadium - Botanic Park between the Zoo and the Gardens. Access to Hackney Rd and Frome Rd. Car Parking in St Peters College  (wouldn't that be funny to see a Port fan either refuse to pay on principle or even just to see them pay!) and parking in other parklands nearby also. Public transport nearby including the O-Bahn and hey, we could even extend the train line    underground through to the stadium!

Maybe that's the plan when they knock down the RAH. They could build the ground into the side of the hill. It's a natural amphitheatre. Just get rid of the Med school and send all those losers to Uni SA with all the other menial degrees.

Lots of comfy spaces in the roots of the moreton bay figs for the Port fans to cuddle up in with a cask of goon too Squawk.
