I think we should wait for some evidence before jumping to conclusions.
I agree we need evidence before jumping to conclusions.
However I was always concerned about the site location, as semi-enclosed waters do not generally assist good heat exchange and by-product dilution.
(As the Torrens Island power station demonstrated in the past.)

We must wonder whether heat output from the plant could have been a factor in any algal bloom that is being blamed.

I did quiz the guys on the propaganda stand at the Royal Show before it was built several times looking for a consensus among them, and eventually got to talk to a senior technician who insisted their research had shown the water circulation was sufficient to dissipate the heat and dilute the brine output.

I was never quite convinced because he ducked some specific questions.

Must have missed it as I skimmed through - no slight intended.
Are they coincidentally doing anything that may muck up the gulf waters over there?

The desal plant could only cause localised issues, not widespread. They're not pumping anything out that isn't there already. It'll just be more concentrated where it gets pumped out.

Agreed.
My concern was whether there was enough flow/current activity to mix the concentrated output and dilute it adequately.
The only other factor I could imagine was some heating effect from the process having an effect if the waters were already a bit warm.
The West Coast incident suggests the shallow waters of the gulfs may have been a bit warmer anyway at the time.
(Unless there is some other factor operating over that way.)

I can't even read Mike Rann's name without thinking about the comment made by an old schoolmate who was a Minister in the Bannon government.

who drinks coke with their scotch? good scotch is only ruined with coke, and cheap scotch isnt worth drinking. maybe that is your problem ;)

they arent taking out all of the water dogger, just some. yes the salinity level of the returned water is higher than the water already in the gulf, but they are hardly pumping truckloads of dry salt crystals into the gulf.

True story.

Are you concerned with the salinity in the gulf after a 40 degree day? If not, you shouldn't be worried about the desal plant either.

I recall reading/hearing that the gulf has lower than normal salinity levels, due to the amount of fresh water discharging into it (although that may have been seasonal- ie after heavy rains), and that the desal plabt would lessen that impact.
Possibly spin, but that's what I remember- happy to be proven wrong.

They did accidentally open the weir one year, reducing the Torrens lake to mud and human remains. ?..
