What about the connection that Soj made in his OP about the carbon tax. He implied that was a direct link between the carbon tax and the decision made at Castallow. Is there a link for that?

Shame on you....

But it was in a Newscorp publication and they dont count The Australian as a credible newspaper - hence it never happened

NOW - if it was in Crikey - that's a different story - the only credible news outlet in the nation

 what have i dragged myself into?

i didnt discover anything to suggest that the carbon tax was linked with this decision. i just must have just ignored that part of the opening post as just the usual "anti carbon tax" rant. to be honest i had forgotten that part of the post, i re read it on reading your question Hondo.

i am not trying to defend Soj's point of view, i just wanted to show that he was not completely fabricating the whole opening post. i had heard the china stuff too, before reading that it had been corrected, so i knew the rumour was out there. i got the impression that he was being attacked for mainly the "China" part of the OP, which i know he didnt invent so thought i would point it out. just blame me for sticking up to the individual that was getting ganged up on ;)

my apologies all, ill go back to just reading this forum and keep my mouth (or fingers) shut :D

My thoughts exactly. I see Quichey is quite happy to put up a link from the MSM if it helps his point scoring. ;-)

Why are you asking me :?

I haven't posted anything doubting that Soj heard what he said.

Where does any of this prove I'm wrong (he says, innocent of the charge) :)

I'm quite happy to critically analyse or accept critical analysis of any article put forward. I linked to that article for the quote from Harley Davidson. Generally my criticism of our MSM is aimed at the concentration of media ownership and the resulting agenda-driven journalism we see as a result.

That was fairly openly speculation Hondo - something that should not be incompatible with a politics forum!

My belief / speculation is that the owners of Castalloy may have considered higher manufacturing costs in Australia as a result of the CT and given it weight in their decision to consolidate their operations.

I wasn't necessarially having a direct crack at you Soj

I was more being pedantic about the OP in terms of what was personal speculation and what was based on the initial media reporting, given that it was becoming a contentious issue seemingly in this thread.

I agree that speculation is perfectly normal here in the Politics forum. I do it all the time!

it seems that the impression that Harley Davidson are relocating their suppliers to China are more widespread than just us here on SA Footy. seems some still believe that is what is happening

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/sout ... 6219690983

"We can't do anything to stop companies going to China," Mr Foley said as he walked away.

not sure what the questioner was trying to achieve asking a retired pollie, (i dont think it was the time or the place, or even the correct person to ask) but i thought the response was interesting.
