My lad has been appointed to umpire the SFL under 16 girls Grand FInal this weekend, has had a great year, considering he started the year having never umpired a game for premiership points.

$2k of extra pocket money has been gold for a 16yo also.

This will mean I'll have one game from 11:30 to 1 then another from 2:45 to 5, I was meant to take my daughter for a driving lesson too as she was going to drive me to the game, I just hope the calves and hammies don't seize up in between.
Looking forward to checking my bets when I finish though, I cleaned up last week only betting on the last at each meeting as there have been some crazy results.

Got through both games unscathed, the A grade game was decided as the last kick of the day sailed through the goals.

Got a semi final this week apparently, wasn't too fazed either way, was expecting the younger ones to get all the finals, they train religiously and chuck a part of their payments into an end of season trip that they all go on.

After getting a B Grade semi I thought it was curtains for the season, the co-ordinator said they'll watch the semi's and decide from there the next appointments, now I've got a B Grade Prelim this week, and with only two of us where the 17's and A's have three.

I'm quite honoured and pumped now, I had resigned my day to being pub bound, now I'll get there for the big races.

Season starts up here tomorrow

Got asked to attend Tiwi Bombers final practise to help explain the new laws and interpretations.

Got to meet and have a chat with Cyril And Tippa (#49 from the Bays late 90s)

So did a Div 1 game up here on the weekend, for the Carlton and Roos fans, Saint Marys did a qualification shifty and played Jarrod Waite in the 2s at 4 pm on Sat. he didn't do much due to injury. But it was a pretty good standard game for ressies (two of the top teams) maybe not GSFL standard but would give Dingy, Happy Valley and Cove fair touch up.

Was 1.5 beers into my recovery when I went down into the change-rooms here at the main footy oval to get my bag to go home after watching the 1st qtr of the premier League Wanderers v Sothern Districts. As soon as I walked in I got told from one of the coaches, don't go any where I might need you.... get changed now.

One of the onfield umpires was crook so go called into action for the last three qtrs. of the NTFL main game to be shown on NITV.

Now doing a game before hand wasn't the best preparation and I felt it by the end of the last but was a pretty good experience to do a game knowing you were being broadcast and had to perform. I managed to brief cameo in the play of the day ;) https://www.aflnt.com.au/aflntv

Is that you the number 25?

Is Frog Davey twice his playing weight at Essendon?

Nope I’m not Matty Duldig/Alan Stringer/Wazneaki McGinty....

It’s goose season up here, boys are in good condition....

PS for the North Boys Cohen Thiele was playing coach of the Banks Bulldogs who beat Saints in the Div 1 game

Had a trot around my local oval last Sunday, and again this afternoon to try to get into some type of shape (other than round) with the thought that I may get to blow the whistle again this winter after-all.

Sunday I completed just 1 lap of the RMIT ground, before the hammy tightened! Then stretched it out and did some centre square run throughs, sprints (yes I can hear you all laughing) all up about 20 minutes & I was cooked.

Today I managed 2 laps, and the same run throughs give or take. Fair to say I couldn't run out an U/12's game right now, and the only official ump training I got to before the lockdown, was to have a beer with the lads. Great prep!

Planning to slowly ramp it up in through May & into June & hopefully be able to at least trot out a half by the time the season starts. We will see.

Do you think umpires will need to take a pay cut this season? Looks like players will and umpire costs form a large part of a clubs expenses which are going to be tested this year.

The league I umpire in sent out a questionnaire to umps regarding taking pay cuts for this season. I have not heard the outcome, so yes its on the cards. We were due a pay rise in 2020.

AFLNT wanted the winter season umpires (CAFL and Big Rivers (Katherine) FL) to take a 40% pay cut, they’ve said we’ll agree to 20%.

Given some of the SFL attitudes to umpires, hereS looking at the grey haired sawn off trainer from Noarlunga who cracked the sh!ts about having to share a room with us in the 2017 finals series, I say pay up SFL, sorry Dutchy!

Heard from a Div 1 umpire today they have been asked to accept match payments of only $50.00 per game

What's normal for a Div 1 Umpire in your league?

Word through today from the league I umpire in (NFNL) that the senior football season for 2020 has been cancelled. I understand the Eastern Footy League in Melbourne has done likewise.

There will be a junior season of some description, most likely it will not include any finals.

A winter off which the body won't mind.

I note the Ballarat FL Umpires are having a Zoom meeting tonight and they are undertaking a survey to discuss pay cut options

No change
1-25%
26-50%
50-99%
We'll do it for nix in 2020

Could go in the things you rate thread but getting the phone call from the Umpires Coach saying you’ve been appointed to your first Premier League game.

So doing the St Mary’s v Tiwi Bombers game at 2:30 on Saturday, it will be quick!!

No decent footy on TV in Adelaide this Sunday so have a gander at one of the more iconic remote regional footy league Grand Finals.

Quick?? It’ll be quicker than a Nestle Warehouse of Quick!
