14 year old banned for 5 years

The story below is of a young player U/14's to be exact who punch an umpire and recieved 5 years for it. In my opinion this is just deserved. I can't believe how bad things are getting, seriously an U/14 punching an umpire, regardless of how sorry he is we have enough problems with getting umpires throughout the country and this sort of thing is just crap.

After some of his comments he posted on facebook he probably deserves a little more time.

Stan, to get people to read your post, change the title of the thread to "5 years".

5 matches, whilst not good for the individual is hardly remarkable and newsworthy! :)

If the story is true, then this is an appropriate sanction. Hitting umpires is just not on, ever.

Yes, this has been discussed on the GSFL thread. Now that the lad has told the world he's dropped out of school at the age of 14 (to work in the family bakery) I suspect he'll now be investigated by the Education Dept for truancy as well. Interesting that he says he was "just trying to break up a fight", I wonder if he was breaking up fights when reported on the previous 3 occasions this season.

If it wasn't for his age, it would have been a life ban.

They got that wrong - he was playing senior colts - not seniors.

The little turd deserves everything he gets. It's a pity he's not banned for life. 4 reports this season alone. says everything about him right there.

Just need to read the quote the Sunday Mail grabbed off his Facebook page to sum the kid up.

sunday mail cocked up again. either way. kid deserves every minute of his 5 years. as a seinor player in my team i dont tolerate any agression to umpires, verbal, physical etc.

Yes exactly - The Sunday Mail I think also tried to make us readers feel sorry for him - I think that's backfired going by the comments on the Adelaide Now site.
Hopefully the kid is getting 'help' as the article suggests.

(My 'rant' to this story is in the GSFL thread...lol)

I saw it all unfold before my eyes and it was not good.
And full credit to the umpire involved handled himself very well during the incident and even came out and umpired the A grade later in the afternoon.

My rant is also on the GSFL thread.

Bottom line for me is the Encounter Bay FC need to take responsibility for this just as much as the kid. He had a pattern of reports and still was allowed to play. Any junior program within any decent club would look at that and intervene, meet with the kid and his parents and get to the bottom of the issue. Not just keep playing him until he does some real damage, to himself, to the GSFL and the Encounter Bay FC.

It's poor management is just as equally poor as the incident itself. If managed properly from the first report incidents like this should be avoided. Poor effort. Easy enough to take pot shots at the kid now, where's the accountability by the club that kept allowing him onto the footy oval in the first place?

actually the people most at fault here are the kids parents/guardians/role models and the kid himself....4 reports enough said.

so he has some talent does he..ben cousins did too and his parents turned a blind eye to his indescretions and look how that turned out.

I think the club must have done its best to counsel this kid surely to keep him playing if he was that good, so blaming the club is unfair imo.

he's very lucky to not be banned for much longer and maybe he might learn some sort of discipline.

He's got 5 years to learn some discipline & pull his head in.
At the same time his parents need to have a good look at themselves & lead by example.

Look totally agree with those comments.
But the whole story is just sad.. A part of me thinks footy could actually HELP this kid.
Anyone who drops out of school at 14 and spits at and punches umpires needs help.
I absolutely shudder to think what he's going to do with his Saturday's now!

Make the little bastard umpire a kids game every week for the 5 years.

Should be a life ban.

NO excuse for ever punching an umpire, whether you are 14 or 41...
