New Metro/Country Footy Clubs

With all this talk of clubs folding, like Smithfield and Paralowie, and a few country clubs having merged over the years, is there possibility for new clubs in existing leagues in growth areas of country/metro South Australia?

And which clubs have recently come into existence if any...?

From what I can think of, but these aren't all that recent:

- Border Downs merged with Tintinara about 15 years ago
- Myponga and Sellicks merged (were Sellicks ever a club in their own right?)
- CMS formed in the mid 90's, likewise Southern Eagles in Yorke Peninsula League
- Kaniva and Leore merged
- the Blues were formed quite a while ago over in the Far West (Ceduna and Smoky Bay)
- the Redlegs were formed in the RMFL in the mid 80's, but only lasted about 20 years, and the RMFL still only has 7 clubs. Will be interesting to see if Peake (who now train in Murray Bridge) or Karoonda ultimately join the RMFL
- Callington joined the Hills Country League about 15 years go

Plus Goolwa and Port Elliot in GSFL, and the merger in Great Flinders with Cummins Red (and Kapinnie?)

Nice GWW!

But I mean clubs that start from scratch, or relocate to a growth area like Mawson Lakes FC. Just a rebadged SPOSFC but into an area with huge potential and drawing base.

Also, Trinity Old Scholars and Angle Vale just came to mind who were recently formed

Point taken.

I guess from country footy perspective, a good example was Callington, although that has obviously turned into a flop.

True, but with the points system Callington may prosper given 10 or so years
Will be interesting to see if the Gawler East development is able to support a new team in coming years, has the potential to join the BL&GFA one would think...?

Amalgamations have been happening for years, Border Downs FC was the amalgamation of Coonalpyn, Yumali & Coomandook when the Border Downs Football league folded in the '50's

Yeah but I'm talking about brand new clubs Ian, something that with clubs folding should be happening, 'in a perfect world'

Surely if Mt Barker's population is set to rise with the massive development that may go on up there, the HFL will have it's 20th club at some point?

Banksia Park Old Scholars started mid-80's and around mid-90's became Houghton Districts.

Flinders Football Club in the old Streaky Bay Football League. Not sure when they started, perhaps late 70's? Folded in late 80's? Then in the late 90's, the two traditional Streaky Bay teams, Rovers and Streaky Bay merged anyway, so in a space of 15 years three teams became one.

Western Warriors was the reformation of the Greek Football Club with the teams being made up of the sons of the Greeks.

Kaurna Eagles: Where do we start

Nunga Community (SAAFL) 1980 Admission rejected in 1982
Kaurna United (CDFA) 1986-88 until suspended from the league
Adelaide Tigers (SAFA) 1993 - Admission rejected several years later
Trans Adelaide Tigers (SAAFL) 1996? then merged with the Glandore Football Club playing at Glandore until
council prerssure forced then to move to Pennington taking over Woodville Districts old ground
they later changed their name to Kaurna Eagles but folded at the end of 2005 from memory

Willsden of the SGL combined with the Quorn council in 1993 to form the Quorn Willsden Wolves (Quorn Wolves) and played their last game in 2006.

Northern Areas have had many teams over the years amalgamate.
Originally Wilmington, Melrose & Booleroo had their own teams. Then Wilmington/Melrose until the early 90's (might have also been '93) BMW Lions were formed.

Jamestown merged with Appila in '72 & then with Peterborough in the late 90's early 00's and now are Jamestown-Peterborough.

Laura merged with Wirrabara in '72 & Gladstone merged with Georgetown-Caltowie to become Gladstone combine. Both these clubs merged to form the Rocky River club (I believe), which was later renamed Southern Flinders.

Broughton merged with Mundoora-Wokurna to form Broughton-Mundoora. Both teams originally come from The Broughton League

I could be wrong 7-dog, but didn't Gladstone Combine change their name to Rocky River and back before the merger with L/W?
