WAGS @ training

I am aware that football is progressing as we move well into the 21st century, however, it seems that a recent phenomenon has swept the game (or at least my club). There are a number of players (mainly seniors) that are inviting their girlfriends to training. However, they are not spectators, but getting involved in drills. It started just before the xmas break with 1 bloke bringing down his girlfriend for sprints training, but since training has resumed this number has grown. What do we thinkk about this? Surely the role of women should be reserved for cheering on the sidelines ONLY on game day and providing stress relief the night before and early morning before the game. And how can bystanders such as myself stop this problem at my club before it gets out of control.....

I think it is all a matter of degree.
At this time of year, when there mightn't be great numbers on the track, having a few more there to get involved in sprints work and warm-ups might add a bit of fun to it, especially if they can add some expertise in sports science, running or stretchin techniques and so forth. Plus the girls might form friendships and want to hang around the club a bit more during the season. The coach needs to have the say for when training needs to become more serious, and managed properly, I can't see it being a problem.

Did one of the ladies beat you in a sprint, Steve? Or maybe she cranked out more push-ups...

That's what I was thinking - the inclusion of the WAGS is probably the coaches idea !!

pffftttttt please....beat me in a sprint, i think not. At first it was ok just for a little eye candy, but now it is really beginning to have a detrimental impact on training. We have ample numbers (especially for this time of year) and I have no idea who in their right mind woould bring there partners to training. I was under the impressions that time at the football club was relaxation time away from the missus.

Steve, just line one up for a bit of accidental contact. Put em flat on their bum and their will think it's too dangerous to be out here. The rest will follow suit and within a week or so you'll be back to blokes only....

me thinks the ladies may have the fitness skills that are too close for comfort.

hell at my old footy club we had a couple trainings with a state league netball side during the season  The head netball coach berated me for being shizenhousen at some stupid agility drill  . My reply was rather sarcastic in Do I play netball? er no, my game revolves around straight lines. They all laughed
