Gaelic7s - 7-a-side Gaelic Football

Just a post to let everyone know that the Gaelic Football & Hurling Association of SA (GFHASA) is seeking nominations for its Gaelic7s competition that is starting in mid November and finishes up in February. Gaelic7’s is 7-a-side Gaelic Football, with up to 5 reserves, and all matches are played at St Marys Park – the home of Kenilworth Football Club in the SAAFL.

Gaelic Football is fairly similar to Aussie Rules Football, so it’s a great way to keep in shape for Aussie Rules season over summer. All games are played on Wednesday nights from 6:30pm, and games go for about an hour. GFHASA is looking for nominations from existing Aussie Rules clubs (as well as soccer clubs, rugby clubs, or simply mates who want to form a team) who want to try Gaelic Football.

Existing Gaelic7s teams feature players from the football clubs Morphett Vale, Brighton, Old Ignatians, Happy Valley, Sacred Heart, Mitcham, Hallet Cove, and many more. The hope is to have Gaelic7s teams based out of footy clubs from all over Adelaide (SAAFL, SFL, GSFL, HFL etc) giving football clubs a way to stay fit during the off season, and compete against teams from other leagues via the excellent sport of Gaelic Football! And of course have a beer after…

Some football clubs have used the Gaelic7s as a platform to launch teams into the Gaelic Football State League (15-a-side), as Mitcham Hawks and Port Districts have done in the last 2 years.

If you would like any information, or would like a nomination form, please PM me or email info@gaelicfootballsa.com.au or visit http://www.gaelicfootballsa.com.au for more info about Gaelic Football in Adelaide.

if its the same as last year you can make your own team with a few mates, think it work out to be about 8 bucks a game per person. or you can join one of the established teams individually if you like.

Wristy I hear there has been new Gaelic7s teams lodged from Christies Beach Football Club, as well as a team from Mitchell Park RUGBY Club...?!

Gotta love the Gaelic7s, a top way to keep fit and play off against players from other codes and leagues whilst playing an excellent and addictive sport!

Would be excellent if there was a ground north of the city as well. The idea is awesome.

Going back 6-7 years ago there was also a competition played out at Gaza Footy Club - but that went under for some reason (lack of organisers/help i would imagine). There was also a nifty arrangement where the champions of the South would play the champions of the North, i remember playing in one such game, it was tops!
