Footy Story of the Year in 2010

Postby Squawk » Sat Sep 18, 2010 11:48 pm

In recent weeks we've heard some amazing stories in amateur/regional comps

- Quentin Graham kicking a huge bag
- super low scores on a wild weekend
- Virginia hitting the post in the GF with 20 seconds left and losing by a point
- Willunga missing a kick at goal after the siren from 25m out, to lose by 3 points to Starth.

To save everyone combing through hundreds of pages from season 2010, how about sharing your footy story of the year from your team, your club, or just a moment in time you saw or heard about?

I'd love to read more! Post away please!

Under 12 Grand Final in the NEMJFA between TT Gully and Broadview. TT Gully had led most the day, with a minute to go Broadview hit the front. Next 50 seconds it was sheer desparation from all involved, TT Gully get a lucky kick and just as the siren is about to be pushed TT Gully lad takes a hanger in the goal square and after the siren kicks the goal to win the game by 4 points. Was a great game of footy.

Oddly enough broadview Under 11's also lost the G/F by 4 points

Probably the best one out of Pt Lincoln happened in the under 17's grandy yesterday.

Mallee Park playing Tasmans, and Mallee's out to a thirty odd point lead at three quarter time...

Tasmans strike back, and at full time it's 58 points each- a draw..

So five minutes each way, and with all of a minute to go, young Mallee Park player sharks the ball off a back, runs in on the angle, and kicks a premiership winning goal.

I think he means local footy Ace ;)

Dean Cutting would be a pretty big story, to almost cheat death and then come back and play A grade footy is a fair effort.

Goodies 0.1 in the semi a couple of weeks ago.

Unley jets 13's also went through the year undefeated and the Unley Jets 14's won their grand final by 2 points after being down by 2 goals with 4 minutes to play.

Pity they didn't publish the point scorers for each team as well

I did like reading a few weeks back about a team who kicked 18.6 one week and lost, and next week on that cyclonic weekend kicked 2.14 and won! (The 2.14 was the same weekend that Goody Saints kicked 0.1 and I think Happy Valley C grade won their GF 1.4 to 1.3  ).

Keep 'em coming! ;)

Yes squawk, Morphett Vale lost to reynella 18.6 to 18.9 then beat noarlunga the following week 2.11 to 3.2. I think Valley's c grade win was 1.3 to 1.1 from memory. That was one crazy weekend.

Squwak, here's a few other scores and stories from that Saturday:

Adelaide Plains 2nd semi
Mallala 2.2
Hummocks Watchman 1.5

Barossa Light and Gawler 2nd semi
Tanunda 1.5
Barossa Districts 0.7

North Eastern 2nd Semi

Blyth-Snowtown 0.5
The game was at Eudunda, reported that during the game the air temp was 9 degrees, but the wind-chill temp was -4.3.

Northern Areas A grade prelim at Melrose was delayed a day as there were fears the road going into the oval would be flooded and impassable before the end of the day.

This result has recently been reversed due to Tyntynder being found to have 19 players on the field for a fair part of the third quarter. story keeps getting better

Imperials Football Club
Reserves team-

Rd 19 vs Mannum at Home- Lose by 7 Goals
Finals- vs Mannum at Mypo- Lose by 6 Goals (after this game no one in the league picked them to come back an win another game they proved them wrong)
- vs Tailem at Meningie- Win by 1 point, solid hard earnt football
- vs Mannum at Jervois- Win by 2 Points with no players left on the bench after the first quarter.
GRAND FINAL vs Meningie at Tailem- WIN by 4 POINTS- Meningie had a 4 goal wind in last quarter Imps went into last quarter 17 points up and hold on for the best B grade Grand Final I have ever witnessed, (Mind you there was a few Red Devils in my hand so that made it alot better.)

The Imps boys beat the odds and come from having no chance to become 2010 PREMIERS it went 1, 2, 4
