Last night I was chatting to Hackham Hawk about people that I looked up to and really made me take an interest in footy.
First of all I grew up watching my Dad play in Darwin til I was 11. That was what initially got me interested.
I started as a first year U/15s player at North Haven where we got smashed every week but i was playing with mates so enjoyed it. As the season finished up for us the seniors were in the finals so me and a mate decided to train with them.
That brings me to my top rated coach, Owen Griffin, who was the North Haven A Grade coach at the time. He took us under his wing. Let me as a 14 year old do preseason and as the season approached asked if i wanted to play Bs that year. He sat on the bench during the first B grade match at Ingle Farm and supported me. He mentored me till halfway through my 2nd senior year and gave me my first A grade game in 2004. Unfortunately he retired from coaching at the end of that year. The other players I looked up to were Shane Griffin, Aaron Burridge and Blake Davis.
Anyone else have any coaches or players that got them interested or motivated them at a young age to get fully involved in footy?
