Pre-Pre-Season Training

Postby Punk Rooster » Sat Sep 26, 2009 10:10 am

What are fellow amateurs doing to maintain fitness?

I personally have reactivated my gym membership (I maintain it, but don't use it during the season), taken on a personal trainer once a week for 6 weeks, & will start boxing classes next tuesday.

My focus at the moment is slimming down, but also working on building strength through a weights program.

any tips or anything else appreciated- bear in mind I'm 34 & a tad overweight.

I have found over the last few years that putting in the k's in the off season helps alot as coaches tend to shy away from lots of road running and the like these days and tend to do alot more fitness stuff using the footy's... But as I got older and with children related time constraints I spent more time on the stationary bike at home which tends to give you a good base and help burn the excess weight. The stationary bike was one of the best things I have bought. Gives you opportunity to excercise when you cant get out and its a good way to warm up/warm down for other activities...
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

Just putting in the k's atm, im not a key position player so I do not reckon I need the strength upper bodywise, just trying to get power in the hips and legs to break tackles and run games out. Pretty simple really..... Between 12-20 kms a week.

Jimmy's pre-season training is creating the stories about his footballing exploits that he is going to tell to anyone unlucky enough to fall within his grasp on a Saturday night during the season.

You might want to go for a run over summer to get some of that fat off your a$$ Shrek. Mind you, the C Grade coach probably wont care

I did notice the great Jimmy doing a pre season walk along the beach during the weekend.
He also did some tackling practice .....very well, by the way. Gave up on tackling when he was put to the ground, very gently.
