Has Facebook killed the footy trip?

It used to be that what happens on tour stays on tour. The footy trip used to be a chance for mild mannered footballers to leave the world of responsibilty behind and be a drunken yobo for few days. With the advent of nearly everyone carrying a digital camera in their pocket these days it's so easy for sneaky photo to end up on the book and bang! Mum, Aunty Rita and the ball and chain see you running down the main street of Mt Gambier in a tutu.
Some might say its a good thing but am I the only one that feels like you can never really drop your guard anymore?

I think facebook has done all the above to the normal 'drunken' night on the town
So is sure to have the same affect on footy trips.
Us mum's and Aunty Rita's - we love facebook - LOL

Only solution - ban cameras on your footy trips

Anyone caught with one or using a mobile as one - hefty fine/sentence/decapitation

We will have to make sure all cameras are banned for sure. Maybe a good punishment for anyone who tries to sneak a camera on the trip, could be to give them a taste of the downlow award (a pint 3/4 filled with port, 1/4 milk and a full egg that must be sculled). That should sort em out.
This could be a concern though especially for myself considering I don't do FaceBook but the Mrs does. Could be very

if something was posted that I didn't know about. I would get home and she would be all

and I wouldn't know what was going on.

Cameras were always and have always been banned on all Golden Grove footy trips.... safer that way...
Who is sober enough to take pictures anyway ???

Interesting topic.... I know a few photos of our netball clubs netball trip from last year ended up on this very website (photos taken by a footy trip to the same area).... not even facebook..... but that's the bigger issue i think - netball trips are generally more accepted that photos are taken, so it may not even be someone on your trip taking the photos and posting them on the internet.....

The question you have to ask yourself is:
Do you trust your team mates to not drop you in the sh!t??!
I've got no issues with anyone taking a camera on the footy trip, everyones got a camera on their mobile phone now anyway. But I would expect a certain level of discretion with what is posted on Facebook etc.

A few blokes on our trip took photos of some hilarious stuff on their mobile phones a couple of years ago in Mt Gambier and put them on Facebook, we even made a Facebook page dedicated to our mascot, but made sure nothing incriminating was put up, and it was fine.
Like BL said, you should be able to trust your mates that they're not going to drop you in the shit. If they do, simple, don't let them go next year.

There is. I'm sure he'll be your friend, if you're lucky.

Not if you read the SAAFL Div 5 report on the bus smash in Victoria it hasn't.
The footy trip nearly killed them but not "facebook"

I am not sure banning cameras on a footy trip will do much good. On our footy trip we had someone snapping a few photos but only posted the ones
that would not cause any harm e.g. the bus trip down, just pictures of us drinking booze, pretty harmless.
I know a few of the boys weren't keen on having a camera there but it turns out we ran into a heap of people from down our way on the nights on the town
and they took heaps of photos and put them on facebook anyway.
So if you don't take them, someone else generally does.
I reckon if you keep them pretty clean, no problems and some funny as photos.

And there you have it. The footy trip (as Generation X knew it) is dead.
"What happens on tour stays on tour" no longer applies in 2009.

This is untrue. Paralowies trip to Sydney the other year certainly has a few stories that have yet to come out!

Good times indeed
