The lads at work have organised an intra company football match between different shifts. What im after is tips, hints and ideas if anyone has done this before. Also we're looking for an oval somewhere between Adelaide and Gawler, preferably smaller than average and if possible under lights to hire. Any ideas?

the Ovingham oval would do the job. the lighting is decent enough for that kind of thing and the size would suit the lazy blokes to a tee!

Was involved with one of these at Holdens about 10 years ago, actually played on an oval out the back of Holdens grounds alongside the railway tracks just down from the overpass bridge. Pretty sure it is all overgrown now and wouldn't be able to be used.

My old man has worked there for 20 years and although I have never worked there, I managed to get a "late call up" to play because my Uncle, who also worked there and shares the same initial and surname as me, was a late withdrawal so I was able to step up and play under his name.

Was a great day, well organised with food and grog served up before, during and after the game and was a lot of fun. I actually ended up getting BOG, kicking 4 goals and taking a hanger over my old man !! Even got a trophy with my initial and surname on it as I was playing under an alias as my uncle with the same initial and surname ;)

Will be great fun if you can organise a venue. Another suggestion could be Kilburn Oval. They have great lights for night footy and while the oval isn't as small as Ovingham's, it isn't the size of Elizabeth Oval or anything and has good facilities there with food, beverage and pokies.

Good luck with it mate and just remember, if you have anyone withdraw from either side late, send me a PM and I will pull on a jumper ;)

Taking a hanger over the old man, thats what dreams are made of!

Also funny you mention Holden as thats where we all work, and yes that oval is no longer recognisable as an oval

These are great social events, although my experience has that it generally ends up a bit more aggressive than a friendly - work grudges come out - competitive spirit kicks in. Even seen it happen in a work cricket game....

Be firm about anything untoward physically - it can ruin an otherwise good time.

Back in the 90's when I was a bank johnny we used to have an annual Comm Bank vs State Bank match at various ovals, the year I played was at Fitzroy Oval.

My old mob (Australian air Express) play Qantas usually every year. Bloody good day out. Played them at Thebby last year, Morphy Pk IIRC the year before that. Virgin used to play them whilst we had a hit at TNT, but found it to hard to organise.

Make sure the boys know to limit the "hard" stuff, and ensure there is a presso at the closest pub or in the clubrooms.

Get the company to chuck some $$$ on the tab, get a trophy done and bingo !!

We've even had AaE jumpers made as we've played the Vics in a clash too. The Qantas jumpers look bloody good as well !!

Also - you could still play if only half the blokes turned up....
