So - some boys from a particular school "might" have had contact with a confirmed case....okay - I get that. But isn't it likely that those boys have been to training and had contact already with other boys who have now had contact at their own school. I mean, how far do we take this?
Surely - if it's a legal standpoint on this - isn't the legal argument to prove that a person became infected wth said virus and died as a result of their contact during a football match? It just seems so incredibly bizzare.
And what about this week, if a child at, say Walkerville Primary, is confirmed - do we shut down the whole competition for another week?
I am not saying we need not be vigilant - but i just don't get the small logic applied here. Boys and teams "affected" (i.e attend Blackfriars) stand down for a week - and let the rest of us get on with life? Catch up matches can be slotted in where necessary.
OVER REACTION by a large degree, I think.
Over reaction maybe so in hindsight, but from NEMJFA's pov & legal advice their hands were tied this weekend, not a hell of a lot was known until Friday night.
As an example Broadview, Fitzroy, Walkys, Geppys & maybe a few more clubs have Blackfriars boys playing for them, they would have all trained with the lads from other schools through the week, no one had much of a clue how fast or lethal this pig thingy is so they had to err on the side of caution. That was the legal advice, not much can be done from that.
If, even that was overlooked, there would have been a nightmare of games as late forefits, eg Broadys u15's have 11 Blacks boys in their team (I believe), I'm not sure how many other of their teams would have been affected. I know that Fitzroy have 10 in their 11's & 7 or so in the 15's so all those teams would have had to be late withdrawls, imagine the nightmare of managers trying to contact their players on a Sunday morning to let the players know to stay home, especially with siblings playing earlier games.
FWIW, I reckon NEMJFA did the right thing.
Fitzroy are back in training this week minus the Blacks boys, & I'd wager the other clubs will take the same stance. The incubation periods over this Friday so I;d reckon she'll be back to normal this coming weekend.
