Postby nuggety goodness » Tue May 05, 2009 6:16 pm

hello friends,
i'm lookin to run a quiz night at the club as a fundraiser and was wondering where to find a good quiz or should i just make one up myself? i do have the 2008 season guide (a bit outdated) but i reckon i could get a hold of the 2009 one.

just lookin for some pointers i guess. has anyone run one in the past and how did you work it?

cheers,

NG
I am not talking to you for 3 minutes because you punched me in the head and it hurt and that was not okay for you to do

We had a very, very good one at our club last year (Even if I do say so myself :D )

The 'host' made up his own questions,
we even had some 'funniest home video' clips that the room had to watch,
and then answer questions on.

It was a blast, everyone had a great time as well as a great laugh.

If you make up your own questions you can also add some relevant to your own club.

O:)
You get what you give....

I have run a couple.

Get help if you do them yourself. Someone to check the questions aren't too difficult and make sure your answers are correct.

It does take a bit of time but it's worthwhile. I made the subjects 'user friendly'. Comics, sport, TV and the like.

I ran a sport and music one which was good fun too.

Sorry Nuggety, you asked "how did you run it"?

Get two mates to be 'scorers' (or you can get tables to swap papers with other tables).

Work out a start time. Stick to it! Explain the rules clearly at the beginning. Don't budge from them. For instance, a good starting point is "I'm only going to repeat the question once". Otherwise you have to say the 25 times!

Get team names during round 1 and get them to nominate a captain.

Then when you start, run the first three rounds, then do the answers for the first. Run the fourth round, then do the answers to the second and so on.

Have a break after three or four rounds so the markers can catch up, and update a scoreboard - we used a whiteboard but you can use an Excel spreadsheet and light projector if you're enthusiastic.

In the breaks (smokos) have 'other games' like closest $1 to the bottle or "sit down if" for a $20 buck prize. They can be good money spinners.

You can have hidden rounds, or double points rounds if you want.

Things we did that you can consider:

Penalise the last team to get their sheet up to the scorers. This way you don't get stragglers.
Leaders jersey for the team in front.
Points for creative answers
Penalties for spelling errors
$1 fine for asking for a clue (good money spinner - but have your clues ready!)

It will be a busy night but bloody good fun. Enjoy it if you do run it yourself. If you want my quiz questions, I'm happy to send them to you. PM me and we'll exchange email addresses.

Cheers!

PS. One quiz night that had a BAD idea was photos of players when they were babies. That was fine but for the 120 people that were external to the footy club that had no idea who was who! Unless it's completely in house I'd suggest not doing it.
