I've heard differnent. I cant belive that Ricky O'Loughlin would be playing for nothing
O'Loughlin would of been on good cash at Virginia this year until Greg Phillips sacked him mid year for various reasons.
Ricky O wasn't paid a cent for playing at the Salisbury Footy Club. I'll state that categorically. He was selected in an Aboriginal All-Star squad to play in Melbourne and wanted to play footy to ensure he would make that trip, and the connection with Eddie got him to the club for 4 or 5 games. Hoping that he'll stay around next year as he got along well with the boys and seemed like he enjoyed himself.
We give money for top 3-4 Best Players each week, believe BOG in the A Grade was about $60 this year. Tried the $40 for the A Grade 21 each win 3-4 years ago and ran outta money by the end of the year, and we only won 5-6 games.
Not being able to recruit high-quality footballers due to the lack of money may mean we might not ever get higher than A3, but I know that the guys I play with now will still be at the club whether we're in A3 or A6. Loyalty is a big thing.

- Social environment, ala that reported from the black
- Strong juniors refilling the ranks
- Positive club culture
- Good demographics; larger potential player population versus competing clubs
- Less internal player politics, partly due to playing for the love of the Guernsey
Social Environment: Top place to be. Boys have 6-7 big shows at the club during the year and weeks when we don't have a show, we all usually go out together anyway.
Strong Juniors: Have had strong juniors for 10+ years now. Fill all grades from U7s to U15s, as well as a 17s or 18s team.
Club Culture: Strong drinking culture as there is at most senior footy clubs, parents are very much involved with the junior sides and young guys tend to hang around after juniors and play senior footy, which is what we survive on. (11 footy trip virgins this year, 17 two years ago).
Demographic: Obviously a lot of other clubs in the north, some that pay, but the club relies heavily on the juniors. Some North Pines boys came over at the start of the year to play Cs and look like they'll be hanging around for a long time, loving the place.
Player Politics: Like I said, everyone is mates with everyone, some guys will always have issues with one or two others, but that's the same as every club I would imagine. Most boys are born and bred Salisbury and play for the jumper and their mates.
