I reckon Mt Lofty would be better than Willunga and the Creek.

GRAPE APE - Morphett Vale V Willunga in pre season games is 4-1 in favour of Morphies.

I know it is the same for every club at the start of the year, with cricket other commitments etc. but the main reason I believe that Morphies have had the upper hand is that they have so many numbers (and good players) playing for the club, that if a 'walk up' A grader can't play a trail game, they have alot of guys that would be playin' A's at pretty much any other club around.

ROOSTER - I don't think there are that many guys playin in the southern & Great southern that have the talent, let alone commitment to make it in the SANFL. South get a bad wrap from the country clubs for not giving good players a go, but in there defence, most players dont stick it out if they're not given a run in the one's first up.

I don't think most people out there appreciate the jump in the level of talent needed but more so the commitment neede to play SANFL week in week out, year after year

Absolutely pains me to say it, but the Mallee Park Football Club in the Port Lincoln Football League can be unstoppable.
I'd bet anything that they'd be the most hated club in this list, since they don't always play the cleanest brand of football,
and they can hit the 'self-destruct' button on the odd occasion, but when they come to play, they will run over any side that I have seen.
They've got a fleet of young kids, Derek Wanganeen (who I believe is 15 years old) will be one to watch in the draft in a few years, whilst Wesley Bilney (22 years) is already a dual Mail Medallist, Richard Jones won League Mail Medals in three different leagues, just to mention three players.
And, yes, this IS the club that has spawned the brothers Burgoyne, Graham Johncock and Lindsay Thomas, amongst current AFL players, as well as Harry Miller junior, Byron Pickett and Gavin Wanganeen.
SAS's goal tally- 0
WCP's goal tally- 0

I know that Broadview have played Morphett Vale in a trial every year since they both won the flag in 04. Broadview have won all games, only trial games but looking at the form between the teams in the major rounds, Morphett Vale have been top 3 and Broadview fighting for finals and avoiding last half of the table If Morphett Vale were put inot a Div 1 comp, you would have to say they would struggle.

Sharky Morphett Vale has played Broadview twice - they won in 05 and lost in 06 - both close games
Morphett Vale lost to Goodwood Saints last year by 4 goals - both teams not at full strength - hard to guage

the top 5 clubs of both leagues are very close, the top ten from both leagues would be (at finals time):

1. Willunga
2. M/Vale
3. L/Creek
4. Reynella
5. Strathalbyn
6. Brighton
7. Happy Valley
8. Cove
9. Enc. Bay
10. Mt. Compass

Then there are the clubs that can be good on their day, like Porties, Myponga, Mclaren, Flaggies on the rise and Goolwa.

Now everyone is entitled to an opinion. But i'd definatly put porties up in the top 5-6,Rate Morphies far higher than Langhorne Creek and Willunga,i'd have Reynella and Cove above those 2 aswell...........

If you took the best teams from the country leagues such as:

Portland
Mt Lofty
Jervois
Morphett Vale
Willunga
Barossa Districts
Tumby Bay etc etc

and made a super league. Would that league be better than Div 1 amatuers?

wouldnt it be interesting if at the end of each year, say 6th n 7th placed team play against the 6th or 7th teams in other leagues. reckon you would get a crowd n sponsors on board. it will never happen though...

Doubt it, must say you dont see too many 1 sided results in SAAFL div 1. F**k Portland, they are from Victoria

I think its ridiculous to try and compare country footy sides to Amatuer A1 sides. the best country teams would only be competitive in A1'a due to the fact that the country sides don't have the depth. This is cos country sides only get a hand full of decent players from town.

A1's get alot of quality players that may not want to play country footy and want to stay in town. Also they have good players who may have not played SANFL or reserves footy and become good A1 players.

Country footy doesn't doesn't have the depth.

But if I were to pick the best comps. It would be out of Hills, Southern ,Great Southern and Barossa Gawler and Light league due to the fact that they are closer to town and have townies play in these leagues.

The past few years in the state country carnival, Southern Districts have been the strongest team. Therefore, southern, hills and great southern.

Would have to be out of Lofty and Willunga of recent years.

Trigalo i think you would definitely add Morphett Vale in with Lofty and Willunga. Jervois have won 4 in a row but everyone seems to agree the comp isnt quite as strong. So i would throw those 3 in the hat but then I would certainly say that sides like Langhorne Creek, Uraidla and Reynella were very unlucky to have not won a flag in the last few years.

Its so debatable and a personal opinion so keep them comin, its good to hear different perspectives.

id have to disagree sasquatch .iv seen mallee park play alot of footy over last two years and iv played footy in gsfl and theres no way they would beat willunga ! malles dont have the bodys to match the height n strength of willunga .malles do have skills but no tall timber n very undiscipline, but your right they are a good club that have bred a lot of stars ,i think the top sides in GSFL , SFL, DIV 1, would all go toe to toe n would be good quality footy to watch but i dont think you could say one side unless they had a comp to sought it out !

Ha ha. About time someone dragged this up again. Why do people still think they can match it with div 1 clubs? Must be just the connotation of the name div 2 and div 3 making people think these are second rate and not wanting to compare themselves to such a comp.

GSFL and HFL would be lucky to have one team each that would be decent at div 2.
