boot camp wrote:as far as Riverland ovals the best would be Berri for playing (although a tad small). Classical oval also for watching GF's - its brings the crowds in real close to the action. the atmosphere at the Waikerie

Don't rate Berri, lost a GF there!!

WAIKERIE is the best ground to play on, amazing to have as a home ground. Flat, large run off area and beautiful grassy surface year round.

Worst - Only the seasoned Hills dwellers can fully understand how terrible Bridgewater Oval can be.
1 - Tiny; have seen a ruck tap to rover who ran 5 metres and kicked a goalpost high goal.
2 - Dangerous; half the oval has a concrete wall running next to it
3 - Disgraceful Facilities; near impossible to fit the whole team in the visitor changeroom, home ones only slightly larger
4 - SHOCKING SURFACE; have seen games played where there hasn't been a blade of grass it is that muddy, seen a bloke lose his boot in the surface (on all 4's looking for it).
5 - A river runs thru it; well next to it, the Onkaparinga. Many a game ball been lost in there and the replacement ball has usually been in there at some stage in its life.
Number 6 would be related to the supporters, but that is not really relavent here.
We want Vaughn.

North Pines wins that one as you can only get 6 people in them - makes Houghton's change rooms look like Footy Parks - Glenunga wins the award for the change rooms you are most likely to catch a disease from 8)

the worst ground ive ever played on is normally a gd ground but on this game the whole oval was just mud and it was our u13's 2003 grand final aswell. at elizabeth oval the league side played the day before in pouring rain and there were 3 games before ours on the sunday.

Have you been there since the renovations? The old home change rooms are now the visitors room and are fine. They old away change rooms were redeveloped and extended with gym and all for Kilburn to use.

Adelaide Uni is a great ground but suffers in the winter, same as Gepps Cross but their oval bogs up after a drizzle of rain. For all year round playability Broadview's is high on the list along with Sals Nth (apart from the cricket pitch full on sand).

Have to agree salisbury Nth oval is big with wide open spaces and lush grass. Good facilities as well.

North Haven the good ????
We played there last year and the surface was appalling....Rooms and club, excellent, no question there... I know its good to be biased occasionally but please....

If you can handle a drive Milang was like a bowling green.

Worst oval was in cricket Wistow - side of a hill an old farmers paddock he donated and barb wire around the boundary. Safe to say the out fielders weren't to keen to push back under the high ball.

The surface there is usually ok Choccies. As with most of ovals down that way, it drains well. The visitors changerooms are apalling though. The lights at Haven are excellent.

Felch, late last year it was a mix of weeds, holes, sandy patches and about 12 varying types of green shrubbery. Was a dogs breakfast and I thought it was even a tad unsafe.... But driving past last week it looked alot better (from a distance mind you)

I must admit alot of the grounds stated were 'dubious' at best. I beleive North Haven, Plympton, Smithfield and Woodville South are at very best ok.
Port Districts is a belter and Mitchell Park is better than all 3 above.

Mate, our ground is never muddy and always lush, comparing it to Plympton is an insult. Each to their own but could you please list any faults that our ground has, I'm curious.

The front bar is pretty mellow on a saturday afternoon. I remember Azza going off a few times back in the day, was a bit quiter when Big Nev stood him though.
