Mines not as bad as some mentioned.
But breaking 3 ribs and heavy bruising in the fleshy bits in between in the last minute of a 2005 second semi final :(
Couldnt even break into a jog for 2 weeks, very depressing watching the boys win the flag without me.

Other than that i ripped my rotator cuff a bit in the Elimination final last year, still have problems with it, just have that feelin its gonna go again.

Wrecked my ac joint and popped my shoulder out at the same time (It was fun putting it back in).
I also got a nasty injury against Elizabeth 1 day. After I kicked my 5th (Thought i'd add that in) some inbred tried to tackle me and KO'd himself on my hip bone and he was stretchered off the ground,I had a haemotoma the side on my hip the size of a footy for a month and had to buy bigger pants just to go to work.I gave them to my old man after, they fitted him beautifully.
Can you bring a man to his feet when defeat is on repeat?

wearing no mouth guard and was hit from behind resulting in biting my tongue and needing 12 stiches in my tongue. Try holding your tongue out while being stiched very hard and lots of blood.

had no bad injuries until i was 26 and went to see the doc re sore knee, a arthriscope later and was told to give the game away as had no cartliage, ruptured pcl and tear in the acl. i need a knee replacement but am a little young.

The dark side of footy!

Where to start?

Dislocated and broken little finger.
Osteitis Pubis x 2 - First time REAL bad, second mild.
Craked ribs x 2 - Although I think bruised ribs are worse!
Haemotoma on left knee 3 weeks after becoming infected from sewerage on surface at Mt Barker oval. Rushed to hospital, had emergency surgury to save my leg after contracting Septic Arthritis. 4 weeks on a drip in RAH - NOT COOL!
Broken arm
Dislocated AC joint - both shoulders
Dislocated Shoulder x 4 - 1 recon, another one pending upon return to Aus.
Dislocated Ankle and both lower leg bones broken (although this was plaing real football) - required full ankle recon, plate inserted to hold my leg together.

I wasn't made to play footy. Far better at drinking and being a tool on the sidelines! (Had a LOT of practice at it!)

This year I have seen 2 teams mates with serious head injuries. One had a fractured eye socket, jaw and cheekbone while the other had a smashed jaw. Not too often that happens ,let alone twice in one season in the same team

PFFT!! ... try a smashed eye socket, broken jaw, 2 split heads and 2 concussions in 1 quarter!

Also in our U12 game this year where PNU played PNU, 2 kids (1 from each team) both came off with broken wrists, 30 seconds after each other! Nothing untoward, they just landed incorrectly... now thats bizarre...

Dislocated fingers
Dislocated shoulder 14 times in two season (reconstruction at 17)
3 scaphoid fractures
1 broken thumb (pinned 14 weeks)
1 broken arm
1 broken leg
torn ligaments in ankles
2 x cracked ribs (i agree bruised are sorse)
numerous concusions
Not bad considering 30 years of competitive footy (no knee trouble = touch wood) and would not change a thing

Countless 'popped' fingers.
Shin splints,ouch.
Inflamed 'bursa' in groin ( bursa-small pocket of fluid between tendon/muscle join and bone),right up behind Mr.Right, and spelled the end of my playing days.

Saw a bloke dislocate a hip at the first bounce of a B grade game,11:30 start and freezing friggin cold.Big fella screamed,as we all would.

knee - degenerative wear and tear after years of footy and cricket
"the bird" finger L - dislocated, still not good
pinkie finger R - doesn't bend at the middle knuckle
bone in the hand - playing indoor cricket (metatarsal/metacarpal?)
A/C joint - first kick of the game came out of the centre, I headed back into the path of Munro the FF for Norwood Union who crunched me - end result, after 30 seconds of a game I was on my way to hospital.
shoulder - dislocated (drunk, taking on a wall)
ankle - several sprains and twists, still clicks
nose - at last count, 12 broken noses (and a reconstruction to boot)
elbow - hyperextended once
ribs - broke 2
stitches - several, mainly in the head
back - two broken vertebrae (only found when I went for a routine xray attending a chiro 5 years after I finished playing)
eye - sitting on the o-bahn, rock came thru the window smashing glass all over me.
concussion - several

I'm 36, my knee is jiggered and I really wanna play next year. Taking a look at this list (attributable to footy) - why would anyone bother? (I must admit, I loved my playing days!)

Silly part is, when i was young, I never wore a mouthguard playing footy, nor a box playing cricket. I spose in those days I trusted my eyes. Not now.

ok this didnt happen to me but its one of the worst injuries ive heard. this guy was playing rugby right and he got tackled to the ground and ended up popping his hip out. as you would be he was in alot of pain....they popped it back in and he screamed even more pain. soon later he arived at the hospital and x-rays were taken, revealing one of his testicles had somehow gotten up to where his hip was. They then realised why he was in so much pain.....as the hip got put back in place the testicle was crushed in the ball and socket joint.
