Firstly, I like to say that I posted this exact rumour back on the old safooty.com website circa 2002ish.

Secondly, the rumour (which I heard from 2 vastly different sources in the "local community") going around at the time (2002ish) was fairly sinister. The rumour at the time was that the Eastern Park footy club and a local councillor (or councillors) was (or were) approached by some developers and were offered cash inducements (bribes, kickbacks whatever) to sell the reserve for development. Both the footy club and the councillor(s) would lobby the local council to sell the reserve. The club even appeared in the local media. At the time there was an article in the local Messenger (about the club) where someone at the club (president?) was interviewed saying why they have to move (forget the (lame) reason why, I think it was because they were either too big or too small for the facilities there). When their ground was sold, E.P. was to relocate to the sporting grounds (Rugby?) on Uley Road, Elizabeth Downs (which from childhood memories was covered in 3 cornered jacks). At the time I thought nothing of the rumours till the article appeared in the Messenger...

Sorry mate but I was on the commitee at the time the rumor started (vice pres) and other than being 2002ish the rest of your post is a mile from the facts. It was a rumour and nothing more there was no meeting between the council and the club and it was never discussed other than at the bar. About the only thing you nearly got right was that we were asked if we wanted to relocate to Uley Road but the council gave it to the soccer club before it was even thought of by the commitee at the time.(this was after my time on the commitee so I may be wrong myself, once again just over the bar chat so not sure how true)

I'm glad the rumour wasn't true.
