The centre square was all A grade and the wings colts. Made a few rules defining no go zones and it worked well.

The only real hiccup was that it would get bottled up down the colts end a bit which was remedied by some creative umpiring.

That reminds of another trial I played whilst with the Wolves.

We had only 20 or so guys rock up, so it was the old playground rules. Clear the ball to half way.
Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.

Back when i was playing at henley the A's and B's had a trial against port magpies u19's. Port got up by bout 4-5 goals in the end but was a good hitout for both sides. Also did the country trip (cant remember where) playing for north 17's which was also a good hitout

i watched this game at Kilburn oval it was a good hitout, and looked like a fair standard even though neither side were at full strength, i was only young though

I played in an under 19 internal trial for Norwood many years ago and during our pre game warm up I noticed a very familiar face who was a little older than the rest of us, as one of my team mates.

It was Bruce Winter who at the time was being denied a clearance from Sturt to Norwood and had been refused permission to play in Norwood trials.

He played on a back flank and fed me all day on my wing, unfortunately not enough for me to get a chance at a league career.
I'm reading a book about anti-gravity. I can't put it down.

When I played under 17's every few weeks we would play a scratch match against the over 35's as they trained the same night as us.
Think we won them all but was always good for a laugh.

Adelaide Uni have played a trial agianst Melbourne Uni Blacks for the past 3 years.
They alternate each year on who plays where. I believe this year is Adel Uni's turn to fly to Melb.

Unfortunately weather hasn't been to kind on them so far, except for last year.
First year, in SA, it was over 40c.
Second year, in Melb on Optus Oval, it was monsoonal, and apparently cut short by the ground keeper.

It's not easy for either team to get full strength A grade sides over each year, so not a totally fair hit out, but supposedly thoroughly enjoyable.

Seaton playing the Port Adelaide Magpies 19s 7-8 years ago at Alberton, I remember Greg Phillips saying Seaton won't get within 10 goals of Port, he also put a bet on it with his now son in law Luke Porter ( a carton of Woodstock )
Seaton ended up winning the game by 4 pts.
Greg didn't pay up!!!!

Played in a Trial Match at Yulara - Ayers Rock/Uluru some time in late 80's. Lost against a makeshift team of contractors, hotel workers, gov't employees etc. They celebrated like they had won the GF in Melbourne. Toga party the night before didn't help us. A few years prior to that we signed a player working out the Rock called Don Oliver from a SAFA club, can't remember which one. He played 5 games for us in a 12 game season and won our B&F with 15 votes. Runner up in League Medal I think. One of best players I've ever seen outside the big League ranks.
