Used to play with Morphett Vale Cricket Club.

B-Grade all rounder...

3 years ago I took 12 wickets at 8.9, made 314 runs at 41 and held 8 catches 8) .

The fine catching record stemmed from my first game with a bunch of strangers...the opening bowler had NEVER taken a 5-fa and had 4 wickets with the opposition 8 wickets down...he was 40 at the time, still bowling reasonably well...

He got the batsman hooking and the ball went skywards...I was under it for an eternity and lost it in the sun, only to drop it  . He missed out on his first ever 5-fa  ...I never dropped another catch again that season...and there were some hot ones in slips and covers that I managed to hold onto.

Me and my mates have been playing together  at the Morphett Vale ICA for about 10 years now...love everything about it.

TB - I play at the Modbury ICA. Our teams called the Beavers. Been together for about 5 or 6 years.

Indoor cricket is a great game. Especially because we play for 48 weeks of the year.

Played against Guy Sebastian last year. I hate his singing, but he is a bloody good cricketer.

Played for about 7 years oudoor at Noarlunga from 1995 (coincided with my footy career, only played because my mate won a bet!).
Spent time on the comittee as well as Captain for a year in C grade as well as VC for about 5 years to my best mate.
Only played 1 game of As and about 3 game of Bs.

Played indoor from about 1985 through to 1997 and well and truly had enough of it, played at various venues from Windor Gardens, Stepney, Camden, Morphett Vale, Reynella, St Alberts? (place not far from footy pk), Morphett Vale and Sth Plympton (cnr cross and south rd).

Enjoying retirement but if I do play again it would probably be for the ferals down at Sullies as I promised Tazz from the Norwood forum. Would like somewhere closer than Noarlunga or Sullies but Reynella and Happy Valley just aint my scene.

I reckon we'd know many of the same good people TB.

Have many good mates who play for Morphies.

That'd be Albert park and Woodlands Wedgie.

Ferals down at Sullies - Well after seeing you in that Port T shirt you might just fit in !.

In fairness, Sullies where down and out 3 years ago but have worked hard to get numbers and recently got a few lower grade premierships and now are back in A grade so well done to them.

As for the shoes, they won the A's last season by 2 wickets in a thriller and my tip is a Port Noarlunga v Noarlunga GF again this season.

Moved down south and played 14's for Hackham.
No under 16's so went and played at Port Noarlunga in 1987.
Played A's there since 87/88 until I moved rural in 2002.

As for Indoor, A Grade superleague captain for the MV sharks in 93/94.
State squad the same years though never did make the final cut.

Yeah that'd be the 2 places I couldn't remember smithy, thanks.

I say ferals in a nice way, except for when Tony Nobes was down there I've got along famously with the Sullies lads.

Funny you should mention that name as he was one of the main people responsible for the cancellation of 1 day cricket in D Grade 3 years ago for constantly being a cheating wanker.

Nobesy's a good mate of mine...he played with me for that 1 season in C-Grade...a gun cricketer and a gun footballer...but a loose cannon when the opposition want to have a bit of a chat to him when he's out in the middle.

Curious now smithy...flick an email through...we could be best mates for all I know. :?

Western Youth Centre 1987-2004, three flags, heaps of games shit average even worse bowling average, captain of a wooden spoon outfit that claimed the flag the next season (against Nobsey's North Haven funnily enough). Talkative chap who came on when we were 5 for not many and bowled crap but can hit a ball and was a key wicket. Also played a couple of years at Clarence Park before they became RCP and now play for..wait for it, Central Districts (hope Tinpot never reads this) in the Ipswich and West Moreton cricket association..until they drop me for not making any runs.

Indoor Cricket from 1983-97. Played superleague for the Camden Dolphins (cripes showing my age now), Stepney Saints, Windsor Guards and Albert Park Pirates. Played at every ICA, woodlands, Mills Indoor Cricket Marleston (played superleague for them at bloody Whyalla, hot as Hades after drinkng a bottle of bundy with Peter Robbell), that joint on Hardys Road. Played in premier league but not good enough for a state shirt.

Played against the following 'celebrities' Steven Sims (a most unpleasant character on court), ex umpire Tony Crafter, Roger Luders, John Falting, plenty of Westies boys (could play as well) and played for the following teams, Carcyle, Bosch Bandits, Dilligaf (Windsor), Brown Bombers, Mile End Hotel, Bullys, The team from Hell and the Hellions. Good days but now I've got no knees left!

Also played a bit of volleyball in the old SAFM 'beach volleyball' comps with my workmates from Genie Performance Headers. We played in three comps, won one and got done in two grand finals. We played against Ross Gibbs and Max (Huge) Cruise. I'll never forget the joy of spiking the ball past Gibbs who I couldn't stand as a footballer (can't trust anyone who wears a yellow streak)! Our team played in three comps indoors as well and drew one game and won the rest. We used to almost kill each other at work playing volleyball so when we played against the unsuspecting public we were pretty awesome, only lost to huge blokes from Glenelg and this other mob that were ten feet tall.

Cheers,

REB

played at prossie with the likes of vaughan and faull and....yes...Ferguson...from 98-03

ferg was a gun when he was in c grade...always light years ahead of anyone else at the club...great to see him getting regular hits with the state side.

played my one and only A grade game vs Adelaide and managed to get into a fight with a bunch of knob heads and got bounced by Moron 7 balls an over ;)

but we won still :D:D

no. 3 bat and couldnt field for the life of me, but bowled leggies in my glamouros jr days.

Do you have anything to do with the junior side Booney, WYC has put a side in the West Torrens yr 4/5 primary school comp which my son plays in, they were supposed to meet in the 2nd game, but it was washed out.

I played a bit at school, but the town I grew up in's side died a slow death before I was old enough to play.
I went up to Mylor to fill in for a couple of games, and stayed for a few seasons playing mainly C's, with just a couple of B grade games. I started batting at #7 or 8, but after going in as night watchman one day, and lasting an hour in drizzle without scoring, I was sent in to open a fair bit, but I prefered to swing the bat a bit, was normally hitting 6's or getting out, and bowled rough Leggies.
I wanted to play D's, but they wouldn't drop me. Fatalberton was also playing for Mylor at the time.

Firstly Ian,dont dig up anything from previous footysa threads when I tell you that yes,my son plays at WYC andI help coach the year 4/5 team, most of which are year 3/4's.We now have 5 junior teams and the future looks good for the YC. 3 under 11's,one under 13's and an under 15's.It has always been hard to get kids into cricket,in some respects we are lucky most schools in the area dont have teams,at least the kids that want to play can come and have a game with us.
