Read a moving article in the Messenger Press newspaper
BOWLED OVER BY A STORY OF COURAGE
Written by , Matt Deighton
The story is about Glenn McGowran who plays for the Keswick Cricket Club in the Adel + Sub comp.
This was an article written based on a radio story on ABC in the local legends comp they run
I have edited the article written by Matt
They are a proud club[Keswick] whose members play iit hard on the field and enjoy a beer off it
But Glenns story made my jaw drop
A Keswick stalwart, he is a former b grade captain, who has played more than 150 games
In 2005 after a series of seizures, he was diagnosed with a brain tumour
But he kept playing

The seizures continued, often while he was batting, but his opponents didnt mind and would clap him from the field-an unprecedented sight in the tough surrounds of suburban cricket- in recognition of his bravery

A surgeon removed a tumour the size of a fist
The next day Glenn as part of his physio treatment, he walked the hospital corridors, practiscing his cover drive.
12 weeks later he played in Keswicks g/f with his brother and 2 best mates
Novemebr 2009 the tumour came back, and Glenn had another operation
6 weeks alter he was watching his brother playing in a game vrs Coramandel
They were short of fielders
Glenn courageously fielded for 45 overs in the heat, saved a few runs, and the team won by 1 wicket
This is just a great story of courage
Glenn is 32 years old
I personally wish him the best of luck
Goodonya Glenn
