AUSTRALIAN COUNTRY CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009 THE ACCC - Round 2 - report - 6.1.09SA vs. EAP at Dutton Park, Kapunda In the upset of the tournament so far, the Outbacks were beaten by a spirited East Asia Pacific side by four wickets at Dutton Park, Kapunda. The EAP team bounced back quickly from their outright loss to Queensland in round one, restricting the South Australian batsmen to a total of 181 from 46.4 overs when in the field. Northern Jets cricketer based in the Barossa Valley, Trent Burge held the Outbacks batting together with a hard working 74, while the next best were Boh Wall, who it five boundaries in his 25 and Corey Knight, opening the batting with 22.PNG cricketer Raymond Hoada junior bowled strong lines and finished with four scalps, while the off spinner John Ovia, opener Sakaria Lomani and captain Rarau Dikana collected two wickets each. In the field the Outbacks were on top early, with tight bowling having the EAP top order struggling at 5/51 at the half way mark before left hander Kila Pala changed the course of the game. He hit a brilliant century to steer the EAP side to an impressive victory. Initial support came from vice captain Andrew Mansale, who made 43 in a match winning 100-run sixth wicket stand. But the hero of the day was Pala, who finished with commanding 107 not out. QLD vs. NSW at Tanunda Oval After being in early strife at 4/58 and then 6/108, the Queensland side worked their way to a competitive total of 200 from its 50 overs. Backing up after his 165 in round one, Nathan Stains made an important 45 before being run out. Down the order Troy Gurski (27), keeper Tony Hamson (17), along with quicks Luke Feldman (18) and Ryan Dowson (27 not out) made important contributions.
NSW pacemen Andrew Maher and late call up Robert Westley were the most successful of the NSW country bowling attack. Opening together, Maher finished with 3/32, while Westley claimed 2/49. Spinners Bob Woolmer and Bill Newell dried up the runs while at the bowling crease, claiming 1/25 and 1/27 respectively from their 10 overs. The NSW top order crumbled in reply, losing its first four wickets for seven runs with quicks Feldman and Dowson doing the damage, securing two early wickets each. It took the Queensland bowlers just 28.1 overs to send NSW packing for a paltry total of 57. After the opener bowlers great start, Toowoomba medium pacer Troy Gurski finished off the lower order with the impressive 3/4 from 4.1 overs while Ipswich lad, Mark Sharrad also claimed two scalps. Sending NSW back in for 21 overs, they were 2/66 at stumps with Nathan Price not out on 35. The Queenslanders are now outright favourites for the 25th anniversary Australian Country Cricket Championships title. Vic vs. WA Stockwell Recreational ParkAt the picturesque and quaint Stockwell oval, against a disciplined and frugal Victorian attack, Western Australia could only manage a modest 9/128 from their full 50 over allotment. Top score with the willow was Nick Willis, who hit six boundaries in his 39 while opener Tim Cooper made 27. The next best for the boys from the West was number nine Ryan Redfern, who remained unbeaten on 18. Active and athletic in the field, this helped both Victorian opening bowlers to concede less than two runs an over. Adam Burns analysis was 2/18, while Ben DeAraugo collected 1/16, with five overs being maidens. Victoria passed the WA total six wickets down, to collect their first victory of the championships. Andrew Fergusson was the backbone of the Victorian innings with an unconquered 63, as they finished their 50 overs on 6/137. Redfern was the only WA bowler with any penetration, finishing with 4/27 from his 10 overs, including two maidens. Peter ARGENT

AUSTRALIAN COUNTRY CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009 THE ACCC - Round 3 report, Day 1 - 8.1.09Vic vs. Qld at Dutton Park, Kapunda The Queenslander’s continued their dominance of the competition with an impressive morning work against Victoria. The Victorian’s had slumped to 7/52 before a partnership of 67 between Mildura cricketer Chris Williams and captain Brad Hauenstein resurrected the innings. Luke Feldman’s strike power was evident, as he collected the first two wickets of the innings and finished with 4/35 from 19.2 inexpensive overs.Mark Sharrad also got in on the act taking three of the Vic’s middle order himself and finishing with 4/50 from 22 overs. The Victorian lower order showed some courage, batting out 80.2 over and finishing with 162.Hauenstein produced his best effort for the carnival so far finishing with 46, while North Albury CC all rounder Greg Daniel was unbeaten on 24. The innings finished in a bizarre manner as quick Adam Burns dislocated his knee hitting a boundary and had to be taken away in an ambulance. From the 19 overs Queensland faced, they have made steady progress being 1/36, with Matthew Dennis and Nathan Stains at the crease on 13 and eight respectively .WA vs. EAP at Eudunda Oval This contest ebbs and flowed in different directions on day one. Initially the East Asia Pacific was in control with an opening stand of 86 between Vani Vagi Morea (63) and Masaomi Kobayashi (63), before left arm spinner John Crognale changed the course of the game. From 20 overs, including eight maidens, he took 5/50. In just 65 overs the EAP were EAP were dismissed for 209, with PNG cricketer Mahuru Dai (31) and Tuesday’s hero Kila Pala (25) both getting starts. Terry Wallace and the consistent Ryan Redfern both secured two wickets each for the Western Australians. Evenly poised at stumps with WA at 2/62, the first session will be critical in the end results. Bunbury cricketer Matt Foreman looked to be on top of the bowling before he was dismissed for 34, while Jamie Lee is unbeaten on 17. Dai and captain Rarau Dikana have the WA wickets top fall. SA vs. NSW at Nuriootpa OvalBall had control over the bat on day one of the match between South Australia and New South Wales. The Outbacks were looking down the barrel at 8/107 after Mount Gambier all rounder David Somerfield was dismissed for a valuable 27. Then Trent Burge and ACCC veteran Travis Bahr produced an important 51-run ninth wicket stand which helped SA past 150. Burge was the last man dismissed for a fighting 50 in a team total of 172. Left arm orthodox spinner Bill Newell from the Hasting River Association was the chief destroyer with the ball, finishing with 4/50 from 18 overs. Rob Westley, opening the bowling collected two important, while medium pacer Nathan Price conceded just over a run an over, finishing with 2/11 from 10 overs, five being maidens. Bray Stephenson got the early breakthroughs in the NSW innings, claiming the first two wickets, and then Somerfield had an impact collecting three quick wickets to have the NSW country reeling at 5/54 from 17 overs. James Vandeluer claimed two further wickets and Bahr chimed in with one to have NSW 8/107 as well. NSW are on the brink of defeat at stumps, at 9/124, after Stephenson claimed his third scalp. Seb Reid has been defiant remaining 36 not out for the Blues, while Blake Fitzgerald (29) and Simon Moore (27) got starts. Peter ARGENT

Queensland was 1/113 chasing WA overnight, News south Wales 3/232 after bowling out EAP for 72, so will likely be pushing for an outright today. SA currently 3/71 off 48 (64 remaning for the day).
The SA/VIC game will have a big bearing on final standings tonight although QUEENSLAND is safe on top due to their first round outright.

SA 3/76 at lunch.

Burge caught on deep square fence. Has had a pretty solid carnival.
