Hello all This has taken me ages to find this site, been scrolling over the last 18 pages and some very interesting topics. A big concern for me is the future of cricket in the PDCA. Every year we have got teams dropping out and kids finding other things to do. When I was a kid, I gave my left nut to play seniors, now kids have cars, girls beaches etc and the list goes on. Cricket must be made exciting again. Would love to hear from all the gurus on how to mahe it more user friendly.

Not sure it can be made more 'user friendly'. Cricket is one of those sports that generally is a love/hate type scenario.

The only way to do it is to get Primary School kids playing and hope they see the light and continue through adolescence and into adult hood. I think about 7 or 8 years ago many Primary schools did not have teams ( that is why my club started a junior program ) and we are now seeing the flow on from that period with those 7-9 year olds from 7 or 8 years ago being mid teens and not having any interest in the game.

Pehaps the T20 version will bring more to the game/back to the game as the time to play a match is shortened.

If you want kids to be interested in playing cricket, be interested in playing cricket with them. Think back to where cricket started for you...it was most likely the back yard with your brothers and sisters and if you were lucky the old man and or an uncle came out and had a hit with you.

I play backyard cricket with my lads all the time and I devise the game in such a way that if they hit it in the air they pay with their wickets. I always try to beat em so they know if they make a good score against the old man they've done well. I won't be winning for too much longer just quietly!

If parents couldn't be arsed bowling to their kids then of course junior is going to sit inside, eat Twisties and play X-Box.
