I was at a club tonight and overheard 2 blokes talking about a country cricket which has been resurected after a folding in the 90s. I was eaves dropping and felt embarassed to ask who it was. Does anyone know? If its true its a monumental effort.

Ashbourne have entered an A grade side in the comp they are affiliated with. It is the first time in nearly 10 years that they have played A grade. The Ashbourne Cricket Club was established in 1895 and the club has fielded at least one team every year since then, and last entered an A grade for the 1997/98 and 1998/99 seasons after winning the B grade competition in 1996/97.

They have also layed new turf pitches at the ground.

Wheres Asbourne? The 2 blokes I overheard said this club had not fielded a team at all junior or senior for 12 years. So i dont think its Ashbourne.

Could be the FINNISS Cricket Club (Very small town between Strathalbyn and Goolwa).
Folded in the Mid Nineties and ressurected this year by a Disgruntled Ex Langhorne Creek Player.
Is Fielding a Team in the A+EHCA 'B' Grade comp. The Team is made up of some Ex Finniss players from yesteryear as well as 5 - 6 players who Defected from the Macclesfield Club after they wern't Happy with the change of presidentcy there.
The Finniss CC have a long and proud history extending back to the early 1900's and will be interesting to see wether this is just a tempory return or whether the Few locals in the area can embrace it and keep it going long Term which is hard to do when the club is unlikely to field any colts teams in the near future even though Ashbourne have done a Miraculous job in surviving without a colts team for at least 25 - 30 years at a guess.

Could be Palmer, between Mt Pleasant and Mannum. They would have gone into recess about that time. Might have been back for 2-3 years, as I think this is there second year back in A grade. Cougar or Saintal may know more.

Yeah, Palmer have been back for a few years now. They've got an A and a B grade this year. I'm not sure how long they went missing though.

I hate not being able to edit posts!

come to think of it, I played a game at Palmer in about 01 or 02, so they probably only disappeared for a couple of years.

I have solved the mystery its a club in Port Piire SouthPort Im told who have reformed after 12 years and have a B.Grade side and 3 junior teams. A great effort by all concerned I would imagine. In todays climate any country club reforming is a sensational effort but getting 3 junior sides up and running must have taken some effort.
