Great effort, he's been an amazing player for a long time. Should have got more chances at first class level. Big reason Kensi have been successful for so long, won them a heap of games. What is the run total out of interest?

Amazing effort. These records stand up over time as well. Looking at West Torrens’ all time leading run scorers, the top 15 includes current player Kelvin Smith, closing in on 5000 runs and Daniel Drew not too far behind on 4300 odd. It includes a couple of players from the 19th century (Jarvis brothers), one of who played in the first Shield game for SA. It includes an Invincible and is lead by Andrew Haslett who scored 6781 runs.

From what I understand, these don’t include one day games that aren’t part of the main 1st grade season, or T20 games.

Looking at some early records, I find this remarkable:

Norwood CC, played in First Grade,16 premierships, won the first one in1873/74 and their last in 1896/97. The club then folded.

Probably folded due to the 'District' system coming in. Would have been replaced by East Torrens.

Hags was at Henley on Saturday coaching the firsts, the side performed well, winning on the first innings already. Afternoon tea was delicious as usual and a delightful appearance by two past premiership players in Leigh Drennan and Ryan Gibson made for a tickety boo day over all. We move on and look forward finishing the year in a strong position with Hags coaching us to hopefully another finals series.

WHEN Kensington legend Jake Brown “laced’’ a cut shot against Southern District last Saturday he thought he had broken one of SACA Premier Cricket’s most prestigious records.

Instead, Stingray Matthew Sugg took a brilliant catch in the gully to leave Brown two runs short of becoming SA grade cricket’s greatest run scorer.

“I absolutely laced a cut shot and when I hit it I thought it was four and that I was going to have the record,’’ the three-time Bradman Medallist said.

“But it was straight at Sugg’s chest and he caught it, which was a little bit disappointing.’’

Brown's dismissal for 32 at Bice Oval left the 37-year-old one run short of tying Salisbury and Northern Districts great Wayne Bradbrook’s runs record of 9509 in a 25-year career from 1971-72 to 1996-97.

During his 40-ball innings, Brown moved into second spot on the most runs list, leapfrogging former Tea Tree Gully, Salisbury and East Torrens star Rob Zadow, who made 9505 runs from 1971-72 to 1995-96. Brown now has 9508 runs in an 18-year career from 2004-05 to 2022-23.

Having already decided this will be his last season in a stellar career that has included nine first-grade premierships (three two-day, five one-day and one T20), Brown could get another chance to pass Bradbrook’s long-standing record if Kensington bats for a second time against the Stingrays this week.

“To break the record, wherever it comes, would mean a lot to me because ‘Braddles’ and Rob Zadow were such great players. Just to be mentioned in the same breath as them is quite humbling,’’ he said.

On a hot 2nd day, West Torrens, Kensington and Port all had a good chance for Outrights, but none could get there. Prospect picked up a valuable 10 points winning outright against Port after losing 1st innings. No real surprises with TTG def ND, Uni def ET, Sturt def Adelaide, Kens def Pros and WT def Wood.

Former WT President Denis Brien has published a great book on the Hindmarsh CC that became WTDCC, called "All the Kings' Men". A really interesting insight into the early years of cricket in SA and society at the time, even if you are not an Eagles fan. It explains how the wealthy eastern clubs like Norwood would recruit by offering the best cricketers good work and giving them Saturday's off to play, remembering many men worked on Saturdays in the 19th century. Hindmarsh (and other working class clubs) often started matches without a full side as players were kept back at work or held up getting from work to the ground (by horse and cart) - players couldn't afford to sacrifice work for a game. No daylight saving back then either so training was in the very early morning (5am I think) before they went to work. No doubt this helps explain the dominance of the upper-class Norwood CC in those early years.
