Yes it was, there was a boundary discrepancy and a hot-head who was generally pretty quiet and it all went haywire from there, I wasn't playing for Smithfield at the time but it was chaotic apparently.
Ironically the next game that Smithfield re-entered a side they had Donny umpire, he went up to the playing group and went off his tits telling them they were under close scrutiny. The team was made up of a few older p!ssheads and some young kids who had no idea what he was referring to, they got rolled outright in a day.

Did you play for GG mate?

Pfft see ya then.. should put one team in every assoc mate, then you can have all teams playing c grade teams..just a thought..

Could bring them all back and drag in another 3 flags?

You could...but proving it was a fluke would shatter the confidence of the club..

Yes i was mate. It was a one dayer and Golden grove needed one of the last ball. Golden Groves batsman skied a full toss and got caught.
Smithfield started celebrating the win when they looked over to the square leg umpire ( Golden grove player )who had called it a waste high full toss no ball. Golden Grove had won the game and a few words were spoken on the field as we walked off.
I was doing the book with the guy who was square leg when a Smithfield player came over and king hit him from behind. It started a all in brawl and Donny just grabbed his phone out straight away and rang Frank saying ive booked them all.
He didn't even try to stop the fight was more happy to stay on the phone telling Frank what happened.
I remember it well as i was booked 12 times

2 of our players escaped a booking, one was the captain, it probably didn't help that Newman and Shandor had a long standing feud, I could imagine that the game would've had it's flare-ups before that.
Even the quiet ones were involved, would've been pretty messy.

Was Newman the opening bowler who bowled with good wheels?
I only got 12 reports as i was captain and i got reported for every player of mine that was in the fight.
Was funny at the tribunal when we went there. I told our guys to be professional in there approach and when we got to Salisbury oval for it, Smithfield were on the grass near the front door in a circle with a carton of West end in the middle. was a pisser.

Oh Sharndor, what a funny cat he was.

Yeah, that was Newman, left armer, Sharndor had told a few mutual friends that he was going to bash him when he saw him next prior to that season. For memory, not many games were handed out, to think that Mags was involved in a blue spins me out, the guy hasn't stopped smiling for 25 years. He was a classic to play any sport with, he was in the front bar of the Smitty watching the horses with his keeping gear on when we took the field after tea, next thing you know a little yellow torry comes screaming across Anderson Walk and out he pops with a huge smile and says "sorry fella's".

Big decisions are going to be made tonight regarding rule changes for 2011/2012.

Who will be attending the meeting?

They wanted all captains/coaches cricket players attending this one!

Lol Sharndor would struggle to belt anyone! That was a good grade of cricket back then. I remember a few quick bowlers like Newman, Tully, Turnball? Then there was some good batters. I remember Kingy from Gawler Centrals i think?

Golden Grove had a couple of good batters like Sharndor, Glen Allan, Keiren O'Connell and Bowlers like Ian Maskell,Doc and Gareth Smith ( Smegsey ).

You no that pie add where he rings his mate from accross the road and his mate looks at his phone and puts it back in his pocket? My point is your mates would have more missed calls from you then the other way around...IMO... ;)
