No they are not folding, that's from a committee person !!!![/quote]

Heard that Sullies owe money to the SCA and that the SCA will not entertain them playing until they pay the outstanding money. From what I understand they only wanted to put a B grade in.

Also heard that there will be no D Grade comp this year just A,B,C plus juniors.

If that's true it's disappointing.
A life member should be trying even harder to keep the club alive and entice more players to the club, not leave and drag a few mates with him.

Sullies will be folding.

I can guarantee they will not field any sides this season.
A few people want to put a B grade side in, but all the guys wanting to play, are the ones who never helped anyone do anything.
So I wonder who is going to put the matting out, pay the umpires, buy the match balls, pay SCA fees, pay the council fees for the ground usage/maintenance, etc. etc.

I think these guys previously thought these things just magically happened.
If they do happen to get a side on the park, they might get a shock when they realise what's involved, and i give them no chance of lasting the whole season.

Given that sullies haven't nominated any sides to play this season I guess it's the end.
Disappointing given the club was fine for 28 years and then the soccer club shafted them.
That ground was going to be Port Noarlunga CC home ground before sullies were born as well.
Thank goodness the move was never made.
You all know you are welcome to re-acquaint yourselves with Leon and AJ. :)

If this is true its a real shame, it makes you wonder what the leaders of the club are up to. seems it may of got too hard for a few of them and now they have left the club with no direction. If they dont have teams in this year it would spell the end of what was a succesful club.

Sorry Mole but can you say winning B Grade flags is succesful?? I thought that a succesful club would be the one who wins A grade flags, how many have sullies won?.

I am not knocking the lads who I played against because I have made some friendships from playing against them. But if they were that succesful would they be folding??

I think you missed the point there hound.
30 years and some lower grade premierships is succesfull to me, and it would be a shame if they folded.

I'm pretty certain sullies won an a grade premiership or 2 in the late 70's early 80's when the stewarts were playing for them.

Don't blame the committee though.
They've tried and tried but keep getting shafted by the soccer club.
In saying that I'm not sure if they've explored relocating or not?

Where does that leave the SCA then? What is the comp going to look like this year? With Reynella fielding a team in the turf comp, is this the beginning of the end for the SCA. Havn't heard much over the off season about the association. What teams are fielding a grade sides?

Reynella will still field an A Grade in the SCA though it's effectively their D Grade so not sure if that's going to help at all.
Flaggies are in A Grade as well.
NO D Grade at all which is disappointing.
I said it years ago, the SCA and GSCA need to talk merger.
That's not to say the GSCA needs the SCA, the other way round, but somethings gotta give.
Go back 30 years, the SCA had 10teams in A,b and D grade, 12 in C Grade and 6 in E Grade.
In that time the onkaparinga area has grown by the thousands yet the comp has shrunk so much it really needs to look at alternatives.

Thanks for the update smithy, The merger idea is a good one, but with the extra travel that players would have to make would that make it less attractive for people than it is at the moment? As much as i love playing 2 day cricket, is it perhaps time that the association looks at playing one dayer's? i know quite a few people who are keen to play but don't find spending 5 hours fielding in 38 degree heat all that attractive.

There is already a mix of 1 dayers & 2 dayers to try and please everybody plus mid week 20/20.
1 dayers ONLY was the cause of death of the D GRade.
Too many footballers just wanting to get on the turps, cheat and start arguments.
The merger idea won't please teams like Cove and Flaggies.
As for the travelling, you get used to it (I played Adelaide & Suburban for 5 seasons down south and travelled to North Haven 6 times  ) and they could structure a home and away draw where you only play against Encounter Bay for instance, once every 2 seasons, not too much of a problem plus its only about 45 mins away, about 10 mins longer than most take to travel to Kangies.
The trip home is often a good team bonding exercise as well. :partyman: :-&

Why do you think these 2 clubs won't be pleased with your idea? I play for cove, and personally i wouldn't be thrilled at the idea of travelling, but if it meant good competition and keep the SCA alive would be happy to. I don't think the A grade is the issue, it is the fringe players, and perhaps footballers if you like, that need to fill lower grades, make it a bit more attractive to these blokes and maybe next year the SCA won't have to resort to just A & B grade, and juniors.

Have heard that the SCA is going to allow Sullies to enter a B and C grade if they pay the outstanding money the owe and fees for this year by Dec 31. Not sure how they are going to pay for it as it is a few hundred $$ which means that someone will have to dip into their own pockets.

Any news on player movements in SCA??. Heard on the grapevine that a Noarlunga junior who went to the Stringrays last year was training with Reynella until Noarlunga found out and rang him up again. I guess Noarlunga and Porties will be strong again this year.

Porties have lost Tanner to southern, sinclair to baby sitting and have got 3-4 new faces out at training.
