For them a competition with less cricket days than turf or other comps is attractive, I fear that adding more cricket will make it too demanding for them and we will lose them.

fox wrote:I agree, fundamentally its a good idea and potentially provides an excellent avenue for attracting new players.

Sorry fox I didn't see the part where you proposed the pre-season type T20, I only seen the PV proposal..

I think should be 15 round season, play each team once in each form of the game - T20, 40 over, 2 dayer.
Play Sat/Sun finals, and shorten the break over xmas.

To me that would be more appealing as a player..

Yep that's one way of doing it.

I'd prefer to keep the T20 comp separate so the teams can be more flexible, i.e. clubs can field a team if they have the numbers. I'd include the "free agency" clause for those players from clubs that don't have enough players. I would also have more lenient selection rules and use it as an opportunity to lure players not currently playing in the association.

I guess one thing to remember is that changing the regular season doesn't just affect the top divisions. It also affect the bottom ones where scratching up enough players every week can be difficult.

Best one yet imo. fair, balanced, some early days with possibility of A/B grade back to back games.

It'd probably be a good idea to see how many teams in each division before deciding how many matches are scheduled. ;) But yes, a fair and equitable draw like the balance of the formats suggested above would be the go.

Getting back to the new bonus point suggestion, I notice it is proposed that it only applies to one day games.

I can't help but think that the only team that can benefit is the team batting second. The most number of points available is attained by winning, the team batting first must try for as many runs as possible. Given there are points awarded for runs too there is really no upside to trying to protect wickets late in the innings.

The team batting second however has the opportunity to gain some extra points if they feel they cannot chase the total since they can choose to try and protect their wickets (boring!). I guess they could also declare to maximise points? This also denies the team that batted first (and will win the game) the opportunity to gain more points by taking the remaining wickets.

If the competition is changed to South Australian Amateur Cricket Association will that make the association eligible to play in the ACCA carnival?

Also i think the fixtures must be balanced, each team playes each other twice in each format. Reduces the chance of clubs whinging and spitting the dummy. I liked phantom's approach. i think its the best one yet. But definitely good to see people getting involved and trying to help the association moving forward.
