just a couple of things...
* last year's record (including one against a particular WYC in round 11)
* always have a slow bowler when it comes to limited overs cricket

yes he took 7/42 but not sure who he got out? It was definitely our worst batting line up for the year by far.
And you only have a slow bowler, IMO if he is in the best 5/6 bowlers in the comp.

For mine, Calderbank is behind,
Hopkins
sampson
Rowe
O'Malley
Pritchard
Tonkes
Cooke

i remember that game very well RB, i also remember the next week. How did Calderbank go then? He got a bunch of young kids out the last game before the end of the year. He also got myself and Russ King out. Me playing across the line, and Russ to a dubious LBW. I gave him credit earlier, he bowls to the weakness of many batsmen in our comp, good on him, but i don't feel he will trouble quality batsmen, which is what you are up against in association matches. He had a good season but he isn't association quality.

On a side note, one of ICC Sharks or Ramblers will be winless after 3 rounds this game.
For both sides, it is a must win in the context of their seasons.
And also, from watching their 20/20 encounter, it's a must win for both sides because of their dislike for each side. It would b great to see ICC lose to both WYC and Ramblers, the 2 clubs that would hurt losing to the most for the icc boys. So cmon, Ramblers, put ICC 0-3 and make it near impossible for them to make the 4.
Other big games this weekend include: Plympton v Glenelg, and also Keswick v Morphy Parks.

Yeah, fair point about whether he'd be the spinner of choice or not - that's not my call. However I stand by my comments that you should always take a spinner into a 1-day game.

Clearly the Ramblers are far from full strength with our 2-time player of the year not being available yet, our junior of the year out with a shoulder for a bit plus 2 other regulars out due to work commitments. Some of that will change, some won't. In fact only 5 guys from last year's regular team played on Saturday.

We haven't won the close ones we won last year - essentially, we're 3 runs away from being 2-0 (lost by a run first game, tie the 2nd), so instead, we're winless.

Personally - I can't wait to get out there on Saturday. I haven't played ICC in about 3 or 4 years, I somehow always miss this game or get dropped for it. Actually, it's probably the latter ;)

Us and ICC only had 6 and 5 players from the GF play this game. We won a flag 5 years ago and Robbie and Pressy are the only two that are still playing for us from that side.

Calderbank (ramblers)
Cooke (sheidow)

12th. Cheek (coro)

i would think that there is always going to be players interchangeable for others. Mine would look something like this

Sampson
McRae
Curyer
MacKay
Neagle
Hopkins
Pritchard
McCormack (floating pinch hitter isnt he????)
Rowe
Tonkes
Calderbank

12th Cook
13th Cheek

A lot of bats i know but the side can definitely afford to considering the number of good allrounders in that side - plus the incorporation of strike bowlers.

Mcrae at the top because he is very good at these association games and rarely misses out.

As jb said, heath has just come back from a better comp and scored 70 game 1, as well as captained the side before. Fountain of experience and top 3 bats in the comp.

i like to judge bowlers on how difficult i find them to face. Only faced calderbank once and he tied me down really well. thats enough for me.

i recon cooky could get a run if someone pulls out. I recon tonkesy is ahead of him.

I count 8 blokes that can bowl there not including mcrae, and blokes that have success in our comp.

Also there are some players havent seen yet so hard to comment or fit them anywhere. Good job on your pot stirring jb

To be honest, i dont think he should have played last year, if not used as an opener/number 3, so no i wouldnt expect him to slot straight back in..

However as bloods pointed out, his last season in ASCA was absolutely amazing

i love playing devils advocate...

so on your theory, blokes with incredible amount of ability like brendan shouldnt play association cricket because it is 40 overs and because they dont make 100 runs by tea on saturday they wouldnt suit the one day format? players of brendan and mackays quality can adapt themselves to a situation...

and the fact that heath didnt have the best year before he left for brighton shouldnt have any bearing on selection, the main thing is hes gone out and played a bloody good level of cricket, and also trained at alot higher level and intensity then some of our trainings so he is actually a better cricketer than 2 years ago... after training at southern i have seen brendan improove ten-fold in just 2 months of training at a high level and intensity and i would be asking serious questions if he went back to sheidow this week for good and did not win the hewitt by a country mile. (dont worry hes not coming back for a while)

so u still think a bloke thats played 2 or 3 games should play ahead of the ex captain and a bloke thats working his way back down the grades?

After two rounds the ASCA innaugral tipping competition stands at

wycbloods - 4 (7)
he whos nickname is unkonw - 3 (7)
Real McCoy - 2 (6)
coverking - 3 (6)
Bazza - 2 (5)
Ameteur Footy - 0 (3)
Rose Boy - 1 (3)

Round 3 will be a hidden round (if I remember not to post)

Don't forget there is still time to get in tips for the Final Ladder Placings, and Hewitt Medal Top 3.

ASCAtipping@yahoo.com.au

Calderblank should be asked to play, because he makes you concentrate like crazy, and just one false shot can cost you.
BTW - can you recall the CUSA Cup grand final birth that Heath McKay bowled us out of? Vs Para Districts at Nth Haven.
Besides, from what I have heard, maybe we should pull out and go back to playing the Southern association.
why aren't "Umpires" a team? they need support to
