I just found out that there was no A Grade game at Eastern Park today because One Tree Hill came down and said our oval is not fit for play... a bit disappointing.

I have the oil on Salisbury West. We have lost a LOT of A grade players from last season. Parkhouse and Ozolins gone (at the last minute - they trained with Salisbury West jsut a week or two before the season opener) to turf, Rocco Illuminato is at Two Wells while John McInness is hurt and making his way back through the lower grades, Miles Picton supposedly playing but unavailable first game, Jim North retired from A Grade and playing B grade this year, Scott McIntyre playing elsewhere as well. But we have a lot of good kids coming through and our A grade will be far from disgraced this year.

Sorry I didn't have news earlier, but this erupted on Thursday when I went for selection and heard the news. Ozolins and Parkhouse pulled out of the club AFL grand final evening apparently.

Anyhow, the other grades (for anyone who cares) were all filled so we won't lose any teams. In fact we have 4 or 5 players who missed out. For the first game of the season that's great, because we normally get a few more trundle out after the main break. A grade chasing 190 for a win (0/4 at stumps) B grade sent in and struggled to 323. Jim North and a couple of kids with half centuries. C Grade (featuring J. Mcinness for a short time) bowled out Willaston for 254 (they were 4/203 at tea!) with J Mac carted everywhere by a dirty slogger. Bloke made 50 in less than 5 overs at the crease. In reply we're 1/62 and on the tiny ground under 200 with L. Harrison, L. Ozolins and M. McIntyre among some other classy bats in the lineup should come away with the points. D grade struggled to 120 and E grade chased leather conceding 300+.

Heard you boys only had 3 trainings before they pulled the pin......and had yet to appoint a coach. This was the reason they left. Big loss for you guys as they were very loyal to the club and Ozzy had turned down loads of money to play elsewhere for years.

Will be interesting to see the two "money clubs" duke it out for the grade 1 flag this season in Sandy Creek and Two Wells. Sandy got lucky last season.

I have played grade cricket and am now playing Adelaide Turf mate. I used to be involved in Salisbury West and am mates with Ad and know Leon very well also.
I heard that Ozzy wasn't even invited to the association medal night meaning he wasn't in the top 2 vote getters for their side last year. As far as I know he never chirps the umps.....that and the fact he didn't receive a vote for his 205no is very interesting.

We were dumbfounded when we found out Adam hadn't even gotten in our best 2 for the medal. Won our trophy by miles, broke the all time record for runs in a season and bowls superbly. I've not played in the same team as Adam, but a stand up bloke who I'm sure wouldn't have talked back too much. Maybe he made it look too easy. That 205* was an all time record grade 1 score.

I wasn't rapt to find out he left so late, but good luck to him this season. I'm sure he'll come back, but I just wish he'd let us know a bit earlier.

Westies don't really run with a coach anymore. Basically they get a guy to organise training and let the captains run the show.

.

That was the point Grahaml - as I've spoken to him about this, he was keen to go around again at Westies, despite turning down $$$ from other clubs. But the fact that there was no training organised until a fortnight before the season was a real sore point with him. All he wanted was for the club to be active during the pre season and to be organised. I know for a fact he was doing his best to get the strongest side possible together. Oh well, at least he didn't go to an opposition PDCA club.

What grade do you play out there ?

So Eastern Park results are a bit strange this week! The A grade went down to Two Wells and LOST outright and the B grade hosted Parafield Gardens? at home and won outright. The B's were finished by 2pm and the A's were on their way back by half three. So interesting results for the two teams this game.

Sandy Creek should defend their title. Two Wells have good players and might challenge if they can actually play together. The rest of the comp is pretty depleted at the moment.

Salisbury West will do some damage in div 2, but honestly a B grade in div 2 is always going to struggle and both our top teams are full of kids this season. Plenty of talent there though, just a lot being asked of 16 year old kids.

Eastern Park will be relegated in Div 1 unfortunatly. They should have went down last year except for the teams pulling out during the year. But sadly there cricket side of things has gone real real down hill in the last 3 years. They use to have 3 real good cricket sides in div 1,3,6
