I remember when we played whatever the temp was and I used to believe it was not in anyones interest to play in those conditions. The only prob was that if the capt's got together and called it off you only recevied the points at the stage of the game or came back next week and play a one dayer while down the road another game may continue. Now we have a peg in the ground and all are in the same boat.

I umpired a game between M/Vale and S/R when the temp was 44 about 5 years ago and within an hour of the start of the game we had 2 lads one a batter and one a fielder who did not bowl under the showers effected with heat stress and both became very ill.

Just for your info the Southern Cricket's heat policy is
Seniors 40
14/16 38
13 wed night cricket 36
All are in conjunction with channel nine news @6pm the night b4 and we go by Adelaide temp.

Early forecast is for 40 degrees on Saturday, which means that A1-A3 and B1-B3 turf will play while the rest of the grades get called off.

Very dangerous weather to play cricket in, all games should be called off.

I don't think that B1-B3 play. A1-A3 will play provided that the SACA don't call off all district cricket. If they do then all ATCA cricket is called off.

MTCA is called off at 40, but finals are open slather now. Let's be honest, who really enjoys playing cricket when it gets to that hot anyway - I know I don't. A guy died playing cricket in Adelaide last year after bowling 8 overs and it was only 38 degrees. I think it is ridiculous having a heat policy during the year, but canning it for finals. If your going to have a heat policy, have it, if not then just scrap it. Its stupid having one rule for finals, and one for the rest of the year. Maybe we should play all one day games during the year, and then play two day finals. It's just as stupid. But we can't complain too much as we didn't have a club rep at the AGM when it was changed. Let's just hope we don't have the bullshit we had last year before the first week of finals when Karoonda tried to have the rules changed to suit them. Let's also hope Round 1 of our finals this year is 55 degrees.

I believe juniors has also been changed to 40 degrees.

It is based on ABC Weather on the night before the days play - Murray Bridge forecast. Problem is at places like Karoonda you could probably add on average 2-3 degrees to that at least.

In this day and age, it won't be long before a cricket association is sued over something like the heat policy.

Such wise words in this thread from you hof. I'm impressed. It simply isn't worth the risk and regardless of saying if you prepare correctly it will be fine there is still the potential for people to get seriously ill or die.

For the record the ATCA's policy is that A1-A3 play but all other grades are cancelled if it is forecast to be 40C at 9:00am on the day of play. If the SACA call off grade cricket then the ATCA will follow by calling off A1-A3 as well.

not looking forward to it guys. hills comp as dutchy said is called off at 41. Big day out on friday is not necessarily what you call good preperation for a hot day in the field either!

I know it has been mentioned as a summer sport and so on but are most comps heat rules, exactly the same as rain rules in respective to one dayer the next week or drawn standings?
