I think mixed thing is just to do with the new play HQ system they use for registrations. Each grade would need a template for who can be registered eg Boys, Girls or Mens, Womens or Mixed. So I think it's just a case of mixed is an option to play in that grade but not actually the association promoting it. It does the same thing with footy.

Fair enough that makes sense.

Hell of a season shaping up in the stanley A grade. No byes, 15 games!

Lower north will be lower north

Blyth Kybunga have picked up a couple of PNG national players and Henry Warner and Luke Ramsey return for depth. Will Pratt and Chirat are both under an injury cloud before Christmas, but I think the youth should be able to cover until then. C Pratt, Warner, Altman and BiggsX2 all under 19 and will push for regular spots being another year older.

Brinky have Mills and MollerX 2 returning but would still have to feel the pinch of Steele and Weich hanging up the bat and gloves respectively. Jack Weckert under a cloud now he’s living/working in Bute and they are fielding an A grade?

Sevenhill are my dark horse. Loved their young quicks last year! Still have quality in Scotty and Porto.

Heard nothing on clare?

Have no time for Watervale

Agree Sevenhill will be one of the teams to watch...have got some game time into the young lads who should improve again. I know there was some doubt as to whether Stuart Pike would play but his confirmed he will be going around again.

What's the standard of a PNG national player....... I'm guessing there not in the Steddall, McPharlin bracket but better than the average player.

A lot better than we thought!
JD will be close to the best bowler in the comp and the batsmen will probably push Riley for the batting trophy!

JD is lighting quick of 10 paces with a simple action and super accurate. Will be without a doubt the quickest in the comp, only a fit jonesy on GF will come close I’d say.

He was complaining of a bodgey shoulder for a fair while this year but who knows? Could get inspired :D

Ryan McPharlin is playing golf.

Good to see Hosea McPharlin playing some A1 cricket. Quite a handy seam bowler in the A2s last year.

Glad to see Sevenhill get a real tidy win first up with Potto in the runs. Not sure they will be there on the final day but with the likes of Potto, Scotty K, Stewie Pike and a few young good kids should be aiming for finals at minimum.

Weird.....and never really like 2 teams from one club in the same division BUT....

Even if it's a genuine b grade they will be competitive enough against the lower sides in A1 no doubt. I heard however they are making 2 'even' sides, has their been a split amongst the McPharlins

The key for the league is to set out some really clear rules and regulations on how they manage the squads and ensure there is no funny buggers with players swapping teams etc.

What position does this leave the A2's in now, would hate to see this happen at the detriment of the A2's. Dangerous slide once clubs don't get to have A & B Grades as we have seen in the Northern Areas comp.

Yeah I understand the rationale but it honestly just doesn't work, as we've seen with Clare Red and Clare Blue etc.

Anyway, not my problem. Summer off for me.

Yeah same i will be having a hit of tennis more weekends than not, maybe play the odd cricket game for Spalding if they are ever desperately short. Might even squeeze in a game for Brinkworth at some point. ;)

I say well done to Lower North for doing this- They’ve won how many (11 or 12?) of the past 15 A grade flags. It will make the comp more even and breathe a bit of life back into the league.
As for the B grade, 5 teams it isn’t the end of the world. At the end of the day it is the second tier competition and I reckon if you go back 5 or 6 years there was only 4 teams in the A2’s.

Yeah 5 solid b grade sides isn't the end of the world.

I'm not critising Lower North....full credit to them, im just not sure i like the set up.

I'm also not sure i want to win a flag beating half a Lower North side. The flag i won with Sevenhill we beat Lower North and that's part of what makes it so special.

Had a B Grader from Blyth tell me yesterday that they won't be having b grade cricket this year. He wasn't sure if it was just Blyth who wont have a side or whether the league wasnt having a b grade. Not sure how true any of it is.
