hello all , first time poster !
ive been reading for a long time and i must say has been quite a laugh through the past few pages !
i must say that the umpiring this year in A1's is the worst i have ever had to play under !
i would definataly have to agree with oz and okc on this one !
also if we are now paying the umpires $90 a game ! surely it would warrant an umpire that can see four foot infront of him ? i mean just a guess thats what we would expect ! there have been
" alot "
of very bad descisions this year and i cant seem to think how we can fix the problem ? because im one that has had enough of it ! and i know of alot of people that are not happy with the quality of umpiring at the moment !
surely something can be done ? just need the correct channels to go about it ! can anyone help with this ? or maybe start a petition ? something needs to be done before it ruins our great competition ! the next thing will be all the good cricketers in the comp will leave!
surely we dont want that ? :?

mate the only way you can fix it is to inject new umpires to the assoc. problem is finding said people.
what we need in all assoc is for the committee members to come and check on the umpiring and get rid of the ones that do it only for the money. you can pay a monkey to stand there and do nothing for the game. or they can pay someone who has a passion for the game and wants to be there.imo.

i tell ya what im even thinking about hanging up the boots to umpire ! id rather get paid $90 bucks a game to umpire than to play and get frustrated every game i tell ya ! either way i understand how it works , just not good enough in my book im afraid ! cheers for the heads up smasha !

When the umpires don't get graded by their ability to umpire the game, but by how long they've been around, whatever else we do won't do squat. First thing that needs to be done is the best 4 umpires available get grade 1, next 4 grade 2 etc. Sounds simple, obvious and the best system but for some reason isn't the way things are done.

Once that's fixed, then the association can look at recruiting more umpires. For the life of me, I don't know why they don't talk to more clubs and put the word out to anyone who might miss out on a game, or is hurt, and see if they want to give umpiring a shot. Even the odd one off game, they might find they like it and take it up properly after that. Right now the system they have in place, where you basically need to have retired from the game and then wait for the umpires higher up to fall off the perch to get higher grades will mean grade 1 umpires will rarely be the best we can get.
