What's the general consensus on "fielding votes", who else thinks it is the biggest crock going around, what makes it worse is when the PDCA send out a leaderboard with a couple of rounds to go, I seen someone gain ten points in the last two rounds, the funny thing is, we played them in the last round and he got none from us, he barely touched the ball.

There is no possible way to find a fair system, maybe "most catches or dismissals" otherwise it is a nothing award. We had a kid win our B grade one, he bowled well for the year, he took a few catches, there were some weeks where he got votes just for being young.

Mr Gary Venn had all the votes round by round on a piece of paper on presentation night. A club delegate had a quick look at it and almost fell over after what he saw. Get this....the same player who scored 192no only recieved 2 votes for that particular game.

But you are correct, they are not public common knowledge.

Fielding votes....meh. I believe it should be a wicketkeepers award like they do in turf. You are spot on again....a pretty ordinary award if you ask me.

That's sort of fair, just a bit of a concern that the guy with slick hands in the slips or an outstanding outfielder can't get rewarded, there is no proper way of judging. I always wait for the other captain to do theirs to see if they take it serious as it annoys the crap out of me when they don't, I've had to hide players in the field coz they are having a shocking day and they seem to get votes against some teams in particular.

192 not out and only two votes, along with Adam's debacle, a little bit of common sense doesn't hurt once in a while.

That was Adam also....maybe they have it in for him ?

Thats the thing....not at all. I reckon Billy would vouch for that.

He's always played hard but has never crossed the line.....or got anywhere near it.

I tried to pick a short list of players that have caught my attention over the years, I didn't want another bollocking from Rollsy so I have picked a couple from most teams that we as a team admired aspects of the game, naturally, I've missed a few, some because I simply have played against enough times, nevertheless, there'll be some interesting choices, feel free to add any input.

(ATCO)
G.Sutton: Always gives 100% with the bat or the ball
Brooksy: Was a fine alrounder in his day
(BRAHMA)
J.Sibbick: One of the best all-rounders over a long period of time
(CDCC)
D.Jones: Very quick, his height was a great advantage too, had to be switched on though
J.Presland: Always scored runs against us
D.Ellis: As solid as they come
(CUCC)
D.Prosser: Another player who just always scored runs agaist us
(Craigmore)
R.Howe: An honest opening batsman, give him a chance and he'd capitalise
M.Frajer: Very difficult to get away, especially at Uley Rd on a gloomy day
(EPCC)
K.McConnell: Had an excellent record against us
J.Durrant: Loved watching this guy bat when he was in-form
(Gawler Central)
K.Norton: He could send them down pretty well when he got going
A.King: Superb stroke-maker, made batting look easy
(OTH)
K.Sellars: Had a good bag of tricks when he bowled
D.Verity: Quick left-armer, often had bags of wickets
D.Stevens: Could turn it on when he brought his game, troubled us a few times
(PTCC)
M.Bitmead: This guy could do it all, kept with no pads, open bowled, batted in the top order
(PGCC)
D.Dohleguy: I've already given him a wrap
M.McConnell: If you didn't get him early he could tear you apart
B.Tomlinson: Always a hard worker
(Paralowie)
S.Holland: Had to get a mention, loyalty held him back, could be nippy when he wanted to
(Riverside)
M.Garrard: Fierce rivalry with this fella, loved it
Dog Mann: Still going, must have 1000 runs by now
(R&C)
D.Jenner: Good all-round abilities, top bloke
(Sal Nth)
S.O'Brien: Always had great battles on the field, great sledger
(Sal West)
A.Ozolins: Nothing I can say that his record doesn't speak for itself
R.Drake: A very tricky bowler
G.North: Great partner for Drakey....very fast
J.North: An absolute pain in the asre to get out
M.Elliott: Could well be the player of the 90's
(Sandy)
C.Roberts: Consistent run machine
M.Burdon: Enough said about him already on this forum, I rate him
S.Hands: Seen him more at PT, tore us apart a few times
B.Fuller: Seen him a couple of times, heard a fair bit about him (There you go)
(Smithfield)
S.Maguire: Could smack the ball to all directions
P.Vandongen: Very intelligent bowler in his prime
D.Newman: Very aggressive bowler, still going
R.Hannun: Always getting runs
(Sth Gawler)
J.Robins: Left arm opening bowler, opened the batting too
(Two Wells)
T.Carpentieri: One of my favourite opponents, loved playing this guy
B.Stamatovich: Same deal as Carpo, must be in the air out there
W.Serle: Nothing like a quick angry bowler
A.Leo: Was great out at Two Wells, still very good at Virginia
(Virginia)
J.Natsias: One of the best sledges going around, loved his enthusiasm and talent
A.Seccafien: Learning well off Johnny, look out Grade 1
(Willaston)
B.Gniel: Could win games off his own back

There you go fella's, pick that to pieces, so any apologies, I'm sure there are many names I missed.

If I wasn't so crap as a player now, I could have better input into more current players

I can't believe you missed Kevvy Harrison from Elizabeth!

Thoughts on Kev Sellars, Bags, Peter Thomas, Shane Pickering, John Marslen, Michael Richard?

Kev - Good player.
Bags - Made runs....dirty player though.
Pete - We haven't seen his best in Para Districts. He's a better player than he's shown.
Pickers - Loved watching him bat. I love elegant drivers of the ball.
Johnny - Fantastic record and player. Just dont bowl on his pads.
Michael Richard - Excellent accuracy and shape. His old man was scary....apparently.

Yeah i missed Bags, definetely up there. Johnny Marslen, didn't play against him in PDCA, the best driver I've seen on turf, the ball would whistle between mid off and covers.
Kevvy & Mick Richards, played hard wicket while I played turf, didn't play against Pickering, seen him as a kid and had talent. I only seen Pete as a junior and on Imparja on Foxtel earlier this year.

Yeah I know, the club that I have spent the most time with languished around Grade 2 for too long, I'll take 9% of the blame for that.

Here's one for yas....

Best innings and best spell ever seen -

Here's mine. A little bit biased of course.

Innings -

Adam Ozolins - 111 vs Two Wells. Chanceless innings in a crucial game late in the season. Secured the minor premiership and faced some quality that day. Willie Searle, Ben Stamatovich, Billy Fuller and Ando. Was also pinged on the lid by Willie. Awesome innings.

Spell -

Glen North - 8/15 vs Central Districts. It was a semi final in a Premiership year for Westies. His wickets included guys like Laird, Presland, Jones who were all at sea. One of the most brutal spells ever seen.

I don't think Glen's spell will get pipped, the best I've seen is 8/20 all bowled, not against that quality though, div 3.

Nobesy and Sewelly got them none down.

That is superb.

Here's one for ya, we call it losing the unloseable game.

We had a bloke (A grade opening batsman, never got a bowl) could only play one week of a two week game going back about ten years ago, played him on our D's. We bowled first, they let him open the bowling, picked up 9/12, cleaned the opposition up for 26 for memory. He opened the batting and made 120 thereabouts and we were about 2/160 so they declared at 5 pm to give him another go at cleaning them up, he picked up another 2 wickets as they went in approx 2/25.

They went on to make around 180 to set our guys a target of around 40, we then got all out for 25. I have the book at home, I bring it out on special occaisions so we can have a good laugh.
