From all reports both teams enjoyed it and i heard rumbling of it being almost better to play on than complex 2. Good to see we have another option in the battle against the weather.

Wandies A grade showed their class with a thumping of Risdon. Risdon Batsmen should take a hard look at themselves and learn to bat their overs out and tough out good bowling.

Warnertown underlined their credentials with a good defeat of last years runners up solomontown, albeit a weaker team than last year. A certain batsmen told me he made a few runs, 45 i believe, and that he is once again in for a big year.

As for the topic of umpires and the ruling on weather a game should play, the umpire should always carry an insurance form and then if the captains want to play let them. Im not saying this is the rule this is my idea of a compromise which would be preferrable to all. I think the key idea here is in B grade, or champions league lol, especially they just want to have a game of cricket. But hey the sooner the weather sorts is self out and gives us summer sunshine the better. Then we can all start complaining about the heat rule haha

Not possible i wouldn't think SS, i think the legality's would rule that out. Credit to you though for putting up an alternative rather than discredit the umpire. I heard one spectator ask someone why they don't replay games that are washed out. I'm told they used to do that but the answer was the players/clubs don't want to do that. So how important is having a game of cricket?

Where is the board...shouldn't they be out there sorting out the mess that Pirie cricket has been in the opening few weeks?

Still stand by my call as if it isn't slippery and the ball bounces, why not play. Same 'risk' as any other week.

They are easy to get Squids, i got a bats mate to get one for me.If you know any officials or delegates i'm sure they would get you one.Mate said to be careful though because changes have not been put in yet.

Replaying games in my opinion are a different matter. I dont think anyone wants to replay washed out matches just play when it isnt physically raining and both teams are present. Like squids said it would extend an already long season. Just on last weekend a good win south-port B grade who look to be a challenger, along with warnertown, to Risdon this year. Especially with players to the calibre of Wayne Gray in the side.

Pt Germien Sharks B Grade

Postby country nomad » Mon Oct 24, 2011 10:53 am

Bit of a buzz at the "shop" on the corner in Port Germein this weekend. Fluff has got the boys pumping with two wins out of three games. Unveiled another lethal weapon in a "young" rookie by the name of Mouse. As we all found out 5 for 11, a catch and a run out. He has already assumed legendary status. Still seen in his cricket whites about 8.00pm Saturday night.

Yes- that is how they spell their name. I have no idea where the spelling came from. I played for their associated hockey club for a while until I took up footy. They are notable battlers in the league across both hockey and cricket.

Re: Germein- their two wins, while against weak opposition, have been great for a new club full of kids. Mouse would have to be one of the Malchow boys right? good young athletes, no surprises as to their performance. Fluff leads a good ship but they have a while to go before they are competitive against the likes of Risdon and Warnertown. Few nice ins this year have got them on the way but don't expect them to be big players at the business end of the season this year.

Not one of the Malchow boys...the old man himself. A real character and he'll happily tell you that his kids' athletic abilities came from him. As for the wins, for these lads, and the community it doesn't really matter. It serves as a great tonic to give a lot of the locals a bit of pride in their community. As a local in the community it's great to see the town getting excited about their sport again.

Combine Cricket

Postby Larry » Mon Oct 24, 2011 12:44 pm

G'day everyone. I have been following this forum for quite some time and I just had to get invoved. I love me Pirie Cricket and have really enjoyed reading most of your posts on here. I have noticed a few questions being asked about the combined side for this year and who will and wont get a game. Is there anyone out there game enough to pick a first XI? I will have a go and look forward to started the debate.

M.Ganley and R.Wyatt to open the bat with young Dan Pine coming in at 3 (and also taking the gloves). My captain and number 4 bat will be S.Fuchs. Another all rounder at 5 C.brooke. L.Warwick at 6. The former Grewer medilist B.Pine at 7 followed by B.Brown at 8. And to round it off my 3 quicks will be J.Pavlich, R.Gillette and either R.Fowler or young A.Johnson at 11 and the other will carry the drinks.

You would think that big Cam Pine with his good start to the year and also T.Bradley if a second spinner is required will also be looked at and also Andy Fuchs if Dan dosnt keep.

So that makes 3 Wandies, 4 Props, 2 Risdon, 2 South Port and 1 Sollomontown. (which includes a 12th man)

I look forward to seeing some other opinions!

Look out Larry, won't be long until someone accuses you of being Straight Talker :)

Regarding the combined side, this would be a good team if everyone mentioned wanted to play:

R. Wyatt
G. Carmody
S. Fuchs
A. Fuchs
D. Williams
D. Pine (wk)
B. Brown (if it's not too cold/hot/slippery)
M. Thornton
J. Pavlich
R. Fowler
B. Pine

Is A.Fuch's batting alone, enough for him to make the team?

I would put Straight Talker in before him

Bowling looks a little weak, maybe bring that tall guy from Props in?

^ Was a good bowler when the ball was swinging.

Serious question, do Southport have any batsmen in their Agrade?

Sykes, Dueter, Gray, Stevens gone

yeah looking at those outs and not hearing of any recruits i do believe South Port are a bit light on in the batting department. Ive heard Benny Brown is quite capable with the bat and a lot will be asked of James Pav. Having said that, I do think they have a very strong bowling lie up with Brown, Pav and Mezza although may be lacking a spinner if the rumours are true that Shean is not playing. They will be around the mark.

Going back to the combined team, I would have Matty Thornton in there but Ive heard he is not playing in Pirie this year instead trying his luck in the big smoke. Can anyone confirm this?

Not sure, he played for Wandies Agrade on the weekend. Was in England for their summer and did pretty good, not sure about the quality of the sides he played though.

Southport might have the strongest bowling in the comp but if no one can make runs it means very little.

yeah very true, alot rests on the shoulders of Benny Brown then dosn't it.
Thanks for the Matty Thornton update. I heard he made a couple of hundreds, which was a suprise but definatly a handy cricketer when on song.
