Well, I'd encourage the Association to put it to the member Clubs then - they (in theory.. ;) ) dictate how the Association serves them, but in the whole scheme of things I don't think a name change will improve the viability of the competition at all. To be brutally honest, I don't care what the competition is called. I think the other SAMCA Associations know by now that our 'churchy' component is minor. My religion is 'The People's Front of Judea', which, quite cruelly, is not formally recognised.. ;)

You can make of the poll stats what you will with 'creative mathematics', but if the 17% that voted for the Baldo Cup were happy to keep the comp name the same, we'd have a clear winner and it'd be business as usual. :p ;)

auto, just the same as paupers like me need to apply for income & asset exemptions to be part of PV, announcing on a public forum that you don't cultivate any 'ferns' in Paralowie could lead to your house being repossessed and your family evicted....

I'm thick-skinned anyway mate and I sure as hell don't hide behind an avatar, most on here know me and I don't post what I wouldn't say in person.
This thread is pretty unique, there's a lot of personal banter that goes on and I'm fine with that, you all seem a pretty close knit group despite being opposition, I respect that.

That's what it's all about hey? 8)

The SAMCA comp, and moreso the National Championships we have every 2yrs, helps to eliminate any niggle amongst the players from different teams. The better players get a chance to play in the same team as each other, forge that team bond and have respect for each other. Which is why a lot of the banter in the higher grades isn't personal or offensive. And probably a major reason why most of the garbage that occurs on the field in our Association happens in the lower grades.

Long time listener. First time caller.

Herder, I agree. Perhaps something could be done to reduce the 'crap' that still goes on in the lower grades. Ideas anyone??

A fish stinks from the head down, so for starters the Clubs need to put decent quality individuals in positions of leadership. People who have respect for the opposition and the game itself, and have no problems pulling idiots into line. Usually it's only one tool who spoils it for everyone else, the exception being Elizabeth East/Paralowie from last season..

The Association needs to get tougher on players who don't do the right thing, especially instances like physical contact with opposition players, like what happened 2 Saturdays ago in the Div 4 GF. Personally I'd be banning that tool for at least a year!

The distinct disregard for the tradition of the game of cricket, being one that's played hard but fairly, and where opposition teams mingle or have a beer & a laugh after the game, is alarming. :? A zero tolerance of people who cross the line of what's fair & reasonable (and with significant punishments) is at least part of the answer, IMO. And another major part is enpowering quality people to represent each & every Club with responsible leadership. Just my 2c worth. ;)

Cant believe you go on about the name of the competition all the time cowboy. who gives a toss what it's called. the real issues are not enough people to help out the executive but readily bag them at the drop of a hat. some of the bullies on this site are defintely guilty of that.

I'm not sure if this has come up as there has been a few pages added since my last visit but if
the name of the association was changed to Sa Amatuer Cricket Association, would we still be
able to play in the Australian Churches Carnival?

Rita i think you just outed yourself ;)

Auto athough i finished a few runs ahead of you i also had 2 more innings than you.
So from this i think you could easily say that we are as sh!t as each other.
Might have to move down a divvy or 3 so i have more of a chance of finishing in the top 5!

(-| You need to open your eyes and read before you open that uninformed, over-sized trap of yours.....as per usual.

Pretty sure I wrote this :
To be brutally honest, I don't care what the competition is called.

@ O2 Thief, he outed himself a few pages ago, and he's still the same clueless tool he's always been. Wonder if he's figured out who '6-Carnival' Lee Hill is yet..?? The fact that young Rita here struggles to figure out what end of the bat to hold ensures he'll never be more than some cricketing leper making up the numbers in the lower grades, not to mention thieving from his own Club. Talk about people not giving back to their own Association, how about not 'taking' from your own Club for starters..?? Found that ball money yet Rita?? L-) =))

A classic example of one of the major problems in our lower grades that we're talking about - Clubs not taking the time to appoint quality individuals in leadership positions.

Fair bit of love on here at the moment

For something cricket related, congratulations to 'All Round Nice Guy' Jeff Clark on winning Rose Park's B&F yesterday. Was a great afternoon session at the Wellington yesterday, and the guys are keen again to go around in Div 1 Churches, providing we're allowed to. Like all clubs we'll need a couple of recruits to improve, particularly in the batting stakes as that was our 'Achilles Heel' this season.....and of course fielding  Speaking of which, which fool gave me 3 fielding votes this season? :?

Looking forward now to the Sydney reunion in a few weeks time. Hopefully OB has locked up his white goods for the day ;)

Rita, at my age I've seen it all. Physical contact, racial slurrs, personal abuse and aggression that goes beyond Herder's (and my) 'Hard but Fair' philosophy. Maybe you are just one of those players (if you are actualy a player at all) who condones this behaviour. Your opinion is dismissed with prejudice.
